General / Off-Topic Windows 10 is Not For Me.

LOL, worries about surveillance, has enough posts on public forum to be ranked "Elite".
Yes, and I chose to post that info in my posts. Elite also means a lot of folks agreed with what I said in them.

Any free society needs to worry about surveillance. Look to modern day China and North Korea for examples of when that goes too far. Germany had a very advanced constitution supporting freedom of speech and freedom of religion during the Weimar Republic. Then the (word that rhymes with patzis) took over and began monitoring newspapers, phone exchanges and the mail. That didn't turn out that well afterwards.

People always think it can't happen to them, until it does. If you think governments will protect your rights, then I can tell that you never studied history.

Block these sites on your Firewall or router.
Also, use a hosts file to block PC use.

Note: New sites are being added all the time.

This is only a start. You need to adapt to new threats all the time.

Thanks OP that was a very, very interesting read.

PRISM sounds incredibly, incredibly dangerous.

Luckily I'm still running W7..........

I actually scoured Ebay for Windows 7 as I hate the tracking, UI, and the absurd privacy breaches from Win10. Also, if a company with biometric data gets hacked, goodbye security forever if we don't have great multi factor. Call me paranoid, but I will never use biometrics as a single authentication factor ever, and if I'm forced to, I will object and find another company. It's just too easy to have something you cannot change about you leaked forever. Password? Change it. Retina or fingerprint? Hope that the hacker was just testing vulnerabilities because you are kind of screwed.

you do realise that everything you ever do online is stored at the isp level so irrespective of your os they have been spying on you for years.

I don't particularly care if the Microsoft/US government/North Korea/ISIS want to take a peak at my PC.
If they really want to see what I've been watching on Netflix, just ask. Lol

Sounds a conspiracy theory-y to me.

Windows 10 is good, apart from the mandatory updates, that also restart your PC without permission, which leaves you feeling paranoid if it'll do it while you leave your PC on overnight to download EDs 10GB update on your potato-internet.

Genuinely interested, what will you do when 10 is the only game in town?

When and if UWP (walled garden) drops dead i might use it. but i doubt that.

Unix maybe.

But to be honest im planning to move to South east asia in a couple of years, so PC gaming can go where it goes.

Wow, is it not possible to play stuff like ED over there? Still, beautiful country I guess.

Well, I was told about a young lady who had a gay friend with AIDS. She went online and looked up info on the disease to educate herself. When her medical insurance came due, her medical insurance premiums had risen 35% because she'd been placed in a 'higher risk' category.

Win10 knows the content of every document, file and photo on your PC. If you think only governments will use that info, you are naive beyond words.

The Internet is a two-way street. At some point, you're gonna get run over.

My Dad was a cop. His favorite saying was, "A locked door will only keep out an honest man."
