Windows 10 is trying to kill me.

Anyone else run into this? A few months ago, Windows 10 started a new behavior with patching updates. When it notices that there are new Windows updates, it pops up a dialog in the center of the screen asking if I want to reboot now or schedule it for later. But since it takes focus, ED stops taking input, and I end up flying into a star while trying to placate Windows. You can just click past it, no... it seizes focus in Windows until you actually make a selection.

Since it's unlikely that we'd be able to convince MS to change their ways, is there an option in ED somewhere to allow it to still take joystick inputs even when the game no longer has focus? On my long exploration journeys, taking star damage isn't ideal. And it could be deadly when neutron boosting. While in VR, it's not possible to answer to Windows and still have time to put the HMD back on and steer to safety.

I'm not a computer guy (I'm more of a put-their-head-back-together-guy), but would taking off automatic updates of Windows 10 help the situation? Or at least discontinue automatic updates while in gameplay?

Like I said, I'm not a computer guy. Just throwing that idea out there.

Check your update settings including the sub-options like "restart options", Windows hasn't been overly pushy for me since at least the spring update.

Are you playing in Windowed or Borderless mode? Also in settings you can change it so that you can decide when updates are downloaded and installed.

Remember the days when Windows 10 never bothered to tell you it was updating, it just shut down & did it, no matter what you were up to!

Or was that just my pc???

Yeah, they've really clamped down on this recently. There's no way to disable the updates, or tell it not to do it at certain times of day. I have it set such that my "active use" hours are from 8 AM to 1 AM, leaving only the 1-7 AM window for it to do automatic installation and reboots, but it doesn't care. It pops this up when I'm in the middle of something. You can temporarily disable updates, for up to 35 days, but then it will force an update when that time expires, which will put me in the same situation.

Unfortunately Windows 10 behaves differently depending on when and how you installed it. This wasn't an issue on the copy that was an upgraded Window 7, but this copy was installed from scratch when I built my new computer. I want to strangle MS at this point.
