Windows 10 problems

snap, i had that issue too, but it's ok now, but i still have FPS loss with amd 15.7 drivers, down to 11 fps whilst travelling in SC, do you have that problem.

i have not seen that I am not on 15.7 yet though. Let me install and see if I get the same issue.

Appears I am on 15.7 and hace not noticed the low frame rate issue you describe. is it all the time in supercruise or just near planets etc...

Hello,

I am having the original issue. Just done the upgrade from Win8.1 to 10. When pressing "PLAY" button in launcher, nothing happens and button highlights again. Please note I am using Steam version.
Going to the steamApps/common/Elite Dangerous folder, if executing the launcher from there, I get a different behavior, with error messages stating that msvcp110.dll and msvcr110.dll are missing. I have tried to:

* reinstall the VS 2012 rev 4 redistributables
* check carefully if %PATH% is correctly set to include the system32 folder (it is!)
* set SYSTEM, SYSTEM32 env variables to system32 folder
* uninstall the game in Steam and reinstall

nothing of the above works, I always get the watchdog.exe giving me back the error with the missing files. However, if I copy the files into the Elite directory, I get past the errors but into an access violation at 0x000007b

Any ideas?

OK, found a fix! Apparently Windows 10 messes up the vcredist files. My brute force fix:

* access (...)\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\_CommonRedist
* you will notice two dirs there, one for DirectX, the other for vcredist installs. These are the installs that Steam runs in the 1st run of the game, but for some reason gets messed up with Win10, so you have to redo them!
* Go to DirectX/Jun2010 folder, locate the .exe file, run and accept all the MS dialogs
* Go to vcredist folder, and run each .exe file nested in the 2010 and 2012 subfolders, including the ones for 32 bits (x86). You should run the 4 install .exe files two times. On a first pass, choose to uninstall the program, on the 2nd pass, choose to install.

Once all of this is done, watchdog.exe in the elite main folder should only complain about the fact it cannot find the main application. If this is the case, the launcher will then work fine.

i'm going do uninstall and install again the game through steam, i hope that will solve my problems. from what i remember steam installs always starts a directx installation and hopefully a vcredist reinstall wish me good luck :(

If you have already updated your video drivers and still have issues. Try updating your Mobo BIOS. Most of the manufacturers have put out new updates to support Windows 10. If you were on Windows 8, it probably isn't necessary but if you were coming from 7 and hadn't updated your BIOS in ages, this could be the source of various odd problems.

Hey good point I'll have to check out the mobo bios thing myself. Yet, I suspect its more likely a gpu driver issue with the OP. Had to do a fresh install of mine since something went screwy when it updated and couldn't launch NVidia control panel.

I highly recommend to all "upgraders": Use DDU to get rid of the old graphics drivers, and perform a clean reinstall of the drivers - for Nvidia-Users: There was a brandnew release yesterday afternoon. (Just google DDU).

I've done the update of the Nvidia Graphic Drivers but the game still didn't work. Also other games of my Steam Collection don't work: Legend of Grimrock and Xcom Enemy Unknown with the same behaviour... Simply the game don't start. So I hope that it's a Visual Basic problem and my fresh reinstall of Elite could solve because Steam Reinstalls Always the C++ Packages. I have my finger crossed.

Before reinstalling to get the game going or any other of the exotic solutions here, ensure you set both launcher and the exe game file in the force fd products folder to run as administrator. Worked for me .

But I bet you havent used DDU for it, and also having the "fullscreen-video-issue" with Microsoft Edge (hangs 1 minute), right? :) -> Then DDU is the solution.

No... Haven't had any full screen issue Commander... All works fine and smooth... Besides those two games...

You know what is strange? That Yesterday at 14:00 i was playing Elite after the upgrade to Windows 10! It worked and to me seemed also a little bit faster and responsive. Yesterday evening, opened steam, launched the game and BAM! Nothin worked. .

I had a problem with steam a couple of weeks back and reinstalled ED outside of steam then deleted it from steam. May be a solution to get you playing again.

I will update the status of my game in some time... Now I'm in office, if I manage to have time to come home and test the fresh install I will let you know if it worked...

instead of downloading the game again log in to the launcher, go to options and hit 'verify game files' this will make sure you have the complete and uncorrupted files without having to download the whole game again, it will only download files that have either been corrupted or are missing.

Indeed this.

Launcher>Options>Verify game files.

with me it happens in SC only when i have targetted a station and traveling to it, starts out at 60 fps (v-sync on) and as i get closer, goes down as far as 11 fps.
Happened with windows 10 drivers and the latest 15.7 amd drivers. Quite a few have had same problem.

I had the same issue last night but right clicking on the launcher icon, properties, compatibility and ticking "run as administrator" solved the problem for me.

I have Steam and only those three games have those problems... How can I click run as admin on steam?

go to the launcher shortcut on your desk top and right click properties/compatability then tick run as admin.
Then go to where steam is installed in my case "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe", right click on the steam.exe and properties/compatability tick run as admin there too.

Good luck.

Thank you dear Commander, will let you know what are the results. As my mentor POIDSLY would say: FAIR WINDS
