Windows Mixed Reality VR - info, installation and troubleshooting

Good...you think I'm a troll....it might shut you up.

I'm just asking that you stop spamming the forum with this.

Over and out (please!)

OP's post should probably be pinned, there are a lot of us using Windows MR now and this is great info. Mods?

nice try troll.

Nice... The troll calls someone a troll. I'd suggest you go down to Walmart (or the equivalent in your neck of the woods) and get a life... But that'd be trolling you so I won't.

Anyway, Walmart has them on sale this week so you might want to stock up...

Stops Windows seeing the headset as a monitor or extended display. It can cause problems displaying games in the headset and can reduce performance.

Hmmm, definitely trying that when I get home. I wonder if that might be causing issues when I try to play oculus games. All the games i tried have a nauseating motion when looking around, like there is some barrel distortion that isn't being adjusted for my odyssey.

Edit: another thing happening is when I load elite dangerous, the oculus app opens up as well. Is there a way to stop it from auto loading?

Sorry, can't help with that as don't use oculus/rift

Is there a reason that this thread isn't stickied? Seeing how popular WMR sets are becoming. Very useful information at least got me to the point of being able to run ED in VR ( though need to make some adjustment to be playable)

This reminds me of the old DK2 days with Dr Kai and company coming up with brilliant guides and solutions Just want to thank you guys for this type of support really makes this forum great just got mine today have not set it up yet as a longtime Oculus DK2/Rift user but this looks very promising just want space to finally be black again like after release 5 in the DK2. That was amazing screen door and all they really could have done some incredible things with color at that time but the experience with CV1 has been disappointing with grey outer space. Excited to get this delivery set up, again thanks for taking the time to help the community owe you a shot. It was lots of tinkering but it was actually fun and the results usually spoke for themselves.

Edit- up and running looks pretty clear need to do some tweaking not quite what i expected for blacks but could be the system i am in too. Clarity looks good though impressed, definite sweet spot on these lenses but once you find it nice

Have you guys experienced any issues with voice attack on this? My voice attack worked great on my rift for some reason i cannot seem to figure out it is just not hearing the mic array. It shows it is listening and that is the device it shows defaulted to and even if I go into my sounds properties the mic is working. Lots of little annoyances I am not used to as I had a specific way I launched into Elite from the Rift this WMD seems like it has a lot of stuff open in the taskbar Windows Mixed Reality, Steam VR, Steam, etc. Any tips for quick launching into Elite?

Windows Mixed Reality, Steam VR, Steam all need to run, but they should start automatically when you run ED from the launcher, ie. Open the launcher, click on play and everything else should start.

For the voice attack problem I don't use it but I have had an issue with the mic array and headphones not working with steam voice chat after starting ED in VR. I didn't look into it too deeply (used a different chat program for a quick solution) but ED VR can cause problems for other programs trying to use the mic/phones.

There are audio settings in Steamvr that might be worth exploring.

I dont use voice attack so cant help there. I always launch elite from Dr Kaii's EdProfiler, so that I can simply choose which profile to use, VR, non VR etc. But even then it needs to launch WMR and stream VR, there is no native way to run elite on WMR without steamVR.

Edit - also, my only problem with the WMR headsets which use lcd screens is that the colours are always going to be washed out and blacks not deep enough, my Lenovo is like that, but I find it fine once I got used to it. I cant compare it to a Rift as I've never tried one. AFAIK the advantage in the Lenovo certainly is the sharpness of the text etc, no problem at all reading any text, I believe its a problem in the Rift with the lower resolution.

Got voice attack sorted it needed a steam key which I got with an email request then loaded it there in the steamapps folder. Reloaded all profiles and pointed to Singularity in that folder then deleted 1.73 version from my computer. Next had to dig deep and find a setting that was not allowing my mic to be used in that app. After that could give a command and see it on screen but no sound. Had to enable plug in support again then fed the cat all is well.

Samsung Odyssey+, i7-6700K (no OC) 32GB RAM, EVGA 1080 Ti. Problem: Two windows on my Windows 10 desktop when running ED, mirroring my WMD display "Elite Client" and "Windows Mixed Reality". Did an Service Ticket with Frontier and finally did what they asked: Deleted ED and all VR related applications. I then reinstalled Windows Mixed Reality, Windows Mixed Reality for Steam, and SteamVR. I then did a clean re-installation of Elite Dangerous (from Frontier, not Steam). It worked! One window was shown, so I started adding back Voice Attack, my HCS voice (Alix), and finally EDProfiler. I use the latter to go between Desktop and VR, having two profiles. I now suddenly have the same problem I started with, and I think EDProfiler may be the cause.

Ideas please, as I have to believe that performance is limited to my WMR headset. ...or is it normal to have two "mirrors" of your VR game on your desktop?

I'm fairly sure there's a mirror setting in Steamvr, not near my pc to double check.

No idea why EDProfiler would be affecting it.

afaik: WMR window can mirror the game, steamvr can mirror the game, Edprofiler won't.

It has to be WMR or steamvr, but surely the window process is identifiable as something? And can be killed independent of the game window?
