I'm quite surprised this many find it challenging, after my first 3.0 on my 2.4 mid engineered vette I completed it with 80% hull (that worried me as I had burned through a lot of banks). After engineering 3.0 I barely have to use cellbanks - I dont think I've used one since.. #shields
I normally kill by taking out the small ships first, because frankly they are pests, then go for the vette/conda at the end. Mostly because in my mind I think hes scared.

Sounds cool OP. People have been asking for challenging scenarios for a while.
When i'm back in the bubble i'd like to get a wing together and go try one of these with a group of Cobras. Could be challenging.
EDIT: Perhaps this could also be a bit of practice for those looking to venture into open and face opponents with engineered ships. Learn how to not panic when you start geting systems failing and whatnot.

Will try. Gotta finish that ram tah mission first. As usual the mass budget will be tricky with the iCourrier. I have an exploration/ racing one at the moment and if i look at it correctly I have 17t of stuff that I can swap for better weapons, shields and power while staying at the 800 boost line.
Will keep you posted. Damn a pair of long range feedback hammers would be neat.

Funny you should say that, I really need to upload my video of my FGS doing this (I was flying lazy and without a fighter to be fair), but it was seriously hairy at the end, everything malfunctioning, chaff offline from early in the battle, low hull by the time I got to the Anaconda, which had crazy SCBs. At that point I started to really think I was going to die, but somehow I pulled it off and limped home with 8% hull. I was very blase in the first half of the battle, which I wouldn't be next time, but soloing it in a medium ship is definitely going to teach how not to panic when you're on the raggedy edge of a DPS race and things are failing all around you.
It is an exhilarating encounter if you make it so for yourself, or as you say, tkae a small wing of comeptent pilots in small ships, could also make it very exciting. I'd be interested in coming along for that in the Courier one day if you'd like?
Yeh I have a lightweight combat one myself, think I've showed you before, but that will NO WAY be strong enough to solo that encounter. I'm thinking A rated drives, not PE, a huge A rated thermal resist shield, 2 huge boosters, AND cell banks. It won't be fast anymore, but it'll be maneuverable and SERIOUSLY durable. I once went full on the shields of a courier and got them up to about 1400 with decent resists, I guess more is eminently possible now with new engineering limits.

Its amazing fun to do in an FGS, when its the funship ever not fun? I tried it with a bi-weave, thermal & fast charge two augmented boosters a chaff and a PD. It was actually a bit easier to remove the small and medium ships from the field pretty quickly and that 17 second shield regen is something I absolutely love! Very useful against all those nasty ships

Depends on the wing, OP was fighting in a fully engineered Cutter.
At the moment I'm thinking G5 D class FSD, 2x resistant E boosters and one A HD. 4t fuel obv., chaff. Lightweight screening frags could be very nice. At least one rail.
If possible keep a C3 pp, but that look dubious. Imo a 650 boost speed would be still very good.
At least one lightweight HRP look like a sane idea given the poor hull.

Personally I think they are weighted perfectly. Think of it like this...
Outstanding pilot with excellent outfitting...
Small ship - EXTREMELY challenging
Medium Ship - Challenging
Corvette/Cutter - Normal.
Average pilot with good engineering
Small ship - Impossible
Medium ship - EXTREMELY challenging
Corvette/Cutter - Difficult.
Bad pilot with shoddy engineering...
Will not be able to solo the encounter in any ship.
Essentially they are weighted to be done by 2-4 average pilots with average engineering, and not be too punishing at that level. Solo challenge is perfect, make it really hard for yourself by using a medium ship.

I tried one of these last night in my 2.4 engineered corvette. Ended up fighting a corvette, 2 fdl a vulture and 2 viper3s.
Hardest fight I've ever had in the game, I burned through all 4 charges on my size 7 scb, but just kept my shields up.
I'm not the greatest pilot, and probably had the wrong kill order - corvette, then 2x fdl then vulture etc. Still it was the.most fun I've had in a long time.
I don't know if I'm good enough to do it in a lesser ship though. Perhaps if I put a 5a shield on my FDL rather than bi weaves?

You will find it EXTREMELY challenging in a medium ship unless you are an OUTSTANDING pilot with flawless engineering. Always take out the small ships first, it's about reducing the number of enemy hardpoints that are on you as quickly as possible. Check out my explanation and video.

Yes, because the corvette is slow, so while you're flitting about taking out the small ships (and I hope you're dropping chaff on cooldown, that is absolutely critical), they won't hit you as much as the smaller shsips will while you are slowly dancing around the corvette. Since the small ships are more maneuverable, they make better use of the hardpoints they have.
The thing is it takes a long time to get the corvette down, so you have a LOT of weapons pointed at you for that long time. Reduce incoming fire as a priority.

Since you put a Cutter on the line as well, I guess base pay was at least rebuy, then doubled to make it worth while. How long did it take? I just wanted to do a quick cr/hr calculation. I might try some if the compensation is right.

Its usually around 3 million credits. I've seen some as high as 9, but not very often
I love doing these missions. When your allied the payouts are pretty sweet and they always have the option of a G5 material. I find the engineered Annys with target lock breaker plasma's to be the toughest but the cutters are pretty meaty too. It's great to finally have a challenging PVE mission to do again in a fully engineered ship.
OP nice summary
If you are allied with a faction, these missions almost always pay 3.6m and take around 5 minutes of combat in a Corvette/Cutter (see my vid on first page) if killing optimally. Figure another 7 or 8 minutes travel and nav beacon time (cos honking ADS doesn't work any more). FGS took me 11 minutes and was extremely challenging, but would be easier knowing what I know now, maybe 8 or 9 minutes with a more optimal loadout and less panic.
I haven't seen one for over 4m since 3.0, would welcome someone confirming higher paid ones do still exist. I haven't ventured far to confirm this to be honest.

i was enjoying these myself until last night, but then i became wanted for killing the mission target and i also got bounties for killing the rest of his wing-(((
Are you sure you took a wing assassination of a 'terrorist leader' and not a black ops mission? Black ops missoins have you tracking down religious leaders or rogue military generals, etc. and are always illegal.
