Wing delivery missions...

Ok, so, I notice these huge wing delivery missions, and I realise they're meant to be done by getting a bunch of people to all take a portion of the goods, but are they still viable to do solo? Or should I just pass them by?

Near as I can tell I'd likely make more by doing the other missions available for the time it'd take me to do one of these on my own, but I was looking for input from others to see if anyone has done it and found it to be lucrative enough to bother with?

The answer in most cases is no. If you want to make a boatload of cash, get a T6 and do the Robigo passenger missions.
This video and the next one in the series explain how to get there and do them. The ship build is in the previous one.

I got myself a Beluga and was doing those recently, got bored so I came back to known space to do various other missions that probably won't make me as much cash, but will vary up what I'm doing. :)

Some wing missions are viable and some will loose money for a single commander. Do the math to find out.
Ah, I see, like many other mission types then, varies wildly mission to mission. Thanks.

Given they tend to pay about as much as a couple 180t missions strung together, I'd say steer clear. I suppose banging out 5k tons in 4x720 Cutters might be worth the x4 payout. Maybe?

But I can't see how doing it solo is worth it.

Wing missions can certainly be done solo, imo they are a good way to help out newbies or random strangers (ask them to 'escort' you if they are in a combat ship).

In terms of time per inf they usually aren't worth it, in terms of time per credit it just depends on the mission. The only wing missions I don't usually take are assassinations, they just take too long to be worthwhile compared to other options. Can be fun though :)

As Quantis says really.

Look at all the details of the mission, especially any penalties for not completing them.

I often do wing missions solo as it is sometimes the only viable mission my commander can accept.
Of course, there is nothing to stop you doing them solo and then sharing the mission as you deliver the last load.

The new Wing-mate will benefit from your work - this could be beneficial for your alt account or any commander. As they can choose their own rewards this could mean (for example) a small additional influence increase to your supported faction.

If you can run 240t of cargo in a Python, you can easily make at least 3.3 mill a run on a standard cargo run.

I make 10 mill plus a run in my cutter at 720t.

Wing missions can be high profit, but you need to do the maths to see if it is as good as it first seems.

But when you are in a squadron and can add members to get payments for them, they really start to shine. Its just you do not see all the money.

Example, i recently completed two wing missions.
One was 50 mill pay out each, one was 34 mill pay out each.
Both required two runs from me to complete.
I had two wing mates doing other things..

I was paid 84 mill for the missions, but with costs, paid out about 50 mill for the items they wanted. I added 4 runs in the opposite direction for 2 mill profit all told..

I made 36 mill for 4 runs all told. So down some 6 mill on normal trade.

But my wing mates each recieved 84 mill.

That was 168 mill plus my 36 mill...

204 million in profit.

Shows they are good.

In general, I find Wing Delivery / Wing Mine missions to be profitable for solo play if they are below the 50M credit limit or not too much above that if you calculate.

I mean the op specifically said huge cargo delivery (so the ~5k ton ones, I assumed) but I see most replies talking about wing missions in general or "I paid x" or "I do them in 2 runs".

I do wing massacre missions all the time, they pay loads. But I thought the question was wing cargo delivery missions. Or did you just mean any wing type? Because yeh, the answer varies a lot. But those 5k ton missions, I don't see how they're good value per time compared to their solo counterparts unless you do it in a wing. Which I thought was the point of the question (you aren't doing it in a wing).

When not in my FDL righting the wrongs of the galaxy I sometimes pick them up in my T9, its a genteel way to unwind after culling wrong-uns, specially with auto launch and landing to the dulcit tunes of Johann Strauss II, The Blue Danube.

Yes, no, yes.
Yes I was walking about the huge delivery missions, no I didn't just mean any wing mission, and yes, I'm doing solo, not in a wing. So right on all three mate. :)

I was also thinking about the slightly smaller - but still big - 4+ (maybe three at a push) solo runs per mission type ones too, but mainly the question was, as you said, about the massive ones.

Why not just find it out yourself like all of us did at one point? Solo: no wing missions. Don't get greedy, #protip.

O7,
🙃

I'm tempted to try it solo with my four accounts simultaneously running all 4 using supercruise and docking assists ;)

If I ever get around to it, I'll let you know the outcome. Can't play anything gpu accelerated at the moment. My new rtx 2070 super gone dead so I'm waiting for the warranty replacement card (been that way since before Christmas).

Thankfully, the 2070 is no longer sold so I'm getting a free upgrade to the 3060 ti ;)

Edit. You appear to have a fan/stalker.
