Horizons Wing missions are *almost* working in Crew - can we get the last step fixed?

I've done a few tests with random players and found that right now, as of 3.0, Wing missions already almost work with Multicrew. Namely:

  • Player can take & share wing mission while in crew
  • Crewmembers can accept the wing mission
  • Crewmembers see the mission in transaction tab
  • Crewmembers get updates on mission status
The only thing which is missing - after completing the mission, crew members don't get the selected reward. Instead, they are left with the mission in transaction tab (similar to regular wing).

It's not surprising, if you think of it. After all, Wings seem to share a lot of implementation details with Crew. What this also means, though, is that there seems to be a feature almost ready in the game. If the last step - getting rewards from wing mission in crew - is implemented, we'll have quite more things to do with crew - with little to no development in other areas

Thoughts?

They should scrap the whole multicrew payout setup. let them act as wings, its easy to make money in this game you don't need to slow players.

I agree, and while I have zero friends and everyone hates me, I don't mind if someone else has big ol' friends who help them make some money to start their career.

Money and ships ain't the end-game progression anymore, it's all Engineering, and there's no shortcut for that currently (aside from the bonus week). If anyone worries about a new player getting too much of an advantage, an A-rated ship in open ain't gonna scare anyone, and I think it's more than okay if players have different types of progression.

Some may make it on their own (I did, and it was fine), some have friends who play the game and can show them the ropes, some can get attached to wing missions and make valuable early-game millions, some have played since 2014 and somehow are only worth 10 million, it's all fine! I don't think having money makes you progress too fast; I know I've gone back and used ships like the Viper that I never used when coming up, and there is more to do than just A-rate a ship in the game (and A-rating is just the start, really, since we have engineering).

After all, a Sidewinder or Hauler can go and make Conda money over a weekend by simply exploring, it's just that new players don't always know it.

I ain't likely to wing up with anyone, but boost those rewards dangit! Other players have a lot of fun coordinating and working together, and the nerf to wing trading missions don't seem like a good idea.

I hope they continue to lay out the balance changes because it's making a difference on the credit front. The grind is the grind because we want the best prize, the best ship. We have to do things we don't like to get it, and that's what makes it a grind. Balance helps fix the overall-better-ship problems, like the T9 extra size 8 slot. It makes it more appealing to the trader, and since it's cheaper, it's less grind. The choices of progression look more horizontal, which means less stress and desperation to have it. To alleviate, either give more money, or make money less necessary. A fun journey takes the end goal out of focus.

Now all they have to do is start making missions better, more engaging, more challenging, and more fun. If the missions are better, maybe we won't only have the prize to focus on. Maybe we will feel rewarded for what we did, rather than feeling just like fat piggy cramming those credits down the cupcake hole snort snort. I know this from experience. I got every ship, every elite, and just this last event, I finished all engineering on all ships. My little turds the T6, T7, Cobra, Keelback, and dropship got polished so they can sit in their hanger looking good, but I didn't really have fun doing it. It was as fun as polishing turds can be. Now I don't play because there's nothing to really play. After seeing it all, getting all the prizes is the only real game here, and it's bleh. If it weren't bleh, I'd maybe wipe the account and start again.

I would like to be optimistic about multicrew missions but, knowing FD I think it will be fair to assume it is just alpha testing some concepts, like seeing if whether a log based script works or not to let multicrew passengers soak up mission rewards like fat piggy snort snort again. What will it be other than, "hey, I will help you level up for free in the most easy and effortless way possible. Just connect, accept the mission, and put yourself into a coma." Multicrew functions are still missing, the turret controls are still goofy, and there really isn't any purpose to having a crew over having an extra wingman (except to be a risk free snort snort). I can't imagine why we even need this right now. It will probably do more harm than good if they implement these before finishing multicrew and making decent missions. There needs to be challenge and failure or else it will be just more grind. Why does nobody in Frontier get this? Nobody, not one person gets this.

I've done the wing trade and assassination missions with friends in multi-crew and you do get the reward.

Once the mission is complete the other people in the crew should get an email which tells them which station they can cash it in.

It works better with friends as you may be closer to the station than a random person you did multi crew with 20kly from where you are.

I have tried assassination missions multiple times and the crew received no email - just an entry in the transactions tab which disappears upon leaving crew. Any details? Were you doing anything special to get it working?
