Wings, working as intended?

So after a long break I've recently returned to the game (taken after obtaining my Cutter/Corvette), I've played the game mostly solo and as such get bored quickly something I'd like to change going forward. Since my absence some new ships have been released including the Type-10. As someone who enjoys flying the fighters I liked the idea of a Type-10 for solo fighter game-play with support from turrets and also for multi-crew, however when I recently tried to wing up with a friend my "Defender" failed to defend my wing-mate, along with my AI-crewed fighter set to "Engage at Will".

When you attack an AI wing of ships what happens? They all go hostile right, well I'd assumed that when my wing-mate was attacked by pirates my Type-10 would consider my wing-mates attackers as hostile and engage them, same goes with my fighter but it doesn't. And to make matters even worse there's no key binding to target your wing-mates attacker either, with my Blue HUD setup they would show up on radar as a different colour (redish/purple), but I had no easy way to target them even the "Zero 0" key binding for "target wing target" didn't work for me at the time.

I get this could be abused by a wing-mate who starts a wrong fight but surely at the very least there should be an option to toggle this behaviour, however a default always hostile to wing-mates attackers would be fine by me (isn't the point of a wing mutual defense/support?) as there is already tools to prevent abuse in multi-player that I think are sufficient, so Frountier please fix this.


TL;DR AI Wings all turn hostile when one is attacked (as it should be), however when my wing-mate is attacked his enemy is not considered hostile to me or my AI fighter and my "Defender" fails spectacularly to live up to it's name.
 
To put the TL;DR in other words, you want the "engage at will" SLF pilot to attack purples as well as reds. Yeah, me too.
 
Another point I'd like to make on Hostility, why is it a "Hostile" ship can sit still at a distance and spam fire Hatch-Breaker limpets at my ship without any response by my fire-at-will turrets or my AI fighter pilot set to Defend? The ship is already hostile (target wise) but because it hasn't fired weapons at me it's not attacked by my defenses?

Firing Hatch-Breaker limpets at me isn't considered an Attack only direct weapons fire is? Really? This doesn't make any sense to me.

This and of course if I'm hit by AI police or pirates accidently I don't go hostile to them, but if I do the same to them well...
