Wireless Gaming Headset - Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and Elite Dangerous

My son received a few giftcards for Christmas (associated with a well known High Street store chain dedicated to selling consol/pc games and associated peripherals) and was itching to use them, however he'd also received the games he wanted too, and really didn't have much of an idea what he wanted :S, so we had a bit of a discussion, and he decided that a new 'Wireless Gaming Headset' would be a good idea as up to this point we had been using a mono-aural Orb Elite Chat headset.

After having a look at options on the internet we decided that the wireless 420 X might be a good option and duly set out to check available options in store. Chatting with with the manager about in store pricing of the 420 X v's the internet offer from the manufacturers web site and in store availablity of other options we finally came away with a pair of Turle Beach Stealth 600's. We have Dolby Atmos installed and they're compatible, they also natively conect to the XBox like a controller without additional dongle, they have separate volume controls for chat and game audio balancing and are very comfortable to wear.

Eventually very much later that evening after he'd gone to bed (school in the morning) ....I got to try them out too with Elite Dangerous and WOW !. I didn't know there was an audible que when the mass lock warning light comes on and goes out....but the most remarkable thing for me was when I was aligning to enter Obsidian Orbital, travelling at about 95 m/s and got overtaken by a Beluga I heard it's approach from behind and over my right shoulder before I saw it come into view .

at c.a. £85 (currently cheaper in Currys) I would heartily recommend this headset.

I have the 420x, It's the first headset I ever got for my XBox One, and it's SO useful.
You will notice, with a good headset, a bunch of sounds that can often be drowned out by the audio channel balance via your speakers, particularly if you have a 2.1 sound system.
I wear mine for chat, use them after midnight when my regular sound system would disturb the neighbours, and always use them any time I'm playing a game where situational awareness is paramount, to be able to hear enemies moving behind me (Try playing something like Observer with them on!)

I experienced the same thing when I got my hands on the stealth 600 in November. There's this whole new level of audio I never heard before, and not just in Elite.

Dont forget to turn on Windows sonic for headphones or Dolby Atmos in the sound settings, it really ups the ante.
Forget my advice as I see you already have....oops.

yes it is a cool head set. Got mine with the Xbox Scorpio. The 600 series that is. Love that it is not connected to controller but the Xbox instead. Especially now that I use the new Hotas flight master for Elite I got in present from my wife.

may I recommend. The headset has 4 or is it 5 audio settings.(can’t remember now) but put it on 3. The sound is just incredible on that one. Especially if u use the Dolby surround sound app that has come out for Xbox. You will never fly with anything less from now on.

Thanks Niels83 , I'll give it a try with beep X 3 setting of 4 ....

What best ingame audio setting to have for decent headphones? I have Astros but I'm sure I still leave in game setting as boost?

Stealth 600's are one of the new breed of direct to Xbox wireless headsets, they connect just like a controller.
So no, not PC.

[yesnod] Yes that's the one !

I was there the other day, and just to show off, I found the game on Xbox, PC & PS4.

In light of this, I humbly demand that BongoBaggins relinquish his moderator hat to me.

I also just purchased a new headset(Plantronics 800HX)with Atmos free with purchase on my Xbox X. Wanted to try a different brand headset then my old turtles(crappy nonwireless). Basically identical to the Turtle beaches, even the same equalizer settings. Changed my headphone setting to Atmos in my xbox audio settings, got the app(free trial there also) and wow the new sound was a massive difference. Not sure if ED supports Atmos, but definitely sounds better.
I had a go at listening to some of the demos and was blown away too. The approaching train and truck demo had me literally cringing.

Welcome to the wonderful world of audio.
Im using a full Atmos setup with high end speakers but to your point i do have a nice headphone pair and with Atmos or windows sonic, it’s a greater experience.

Warning:
Dont use the Federal Gunship as that ship has audio issues which impact the whole game not just the ship. Otherwise, enjoy!

I'm thinking about buying the HyperX CloudX or Cloud Alpha. Sadly they're just stereo headsets. I'd like a surround one but the TB models don't seem too sturdy to me. They're very plastic looking and also I don't want to recharge yet another device.

Windows sonic and Atmos for headphones is designed to simulate surround sound in stereo headphones with clever programming, and it works really well.
I think you will find that surround sound headphones do just that, there really isn't a way to shoe horn the extra speakers needed into a headset.
I use the Razer Threashers which are direct wireless to Xbox, and they are superb but cost quite a lot more than the 600's.

I must be lucky, and happened to marry the best wife in the world. After I pointed out that I was struggling with the Xbox controller, she suggested looking for a joystick. I found a Hotas One at our closest Micro Center (1 hour drive one way) she said "great we can try that new place to eat near there." Then when we were out shopping she saw the 600 headset and suggested that I should try those, as they connect directly to the Xbox.

I really don't deserve her......... :)
