With each update always update your IPD!

You probably already know this but IPD measured by an optician is not always the same as the IPD calculated using the Oculus config utility. Something to do with there being a difference depending on whether you are focusing on distant rather than close objects.

I manually measured my IPD and did the oculus tool. Was about a .5mm difference, which I am sure is in the error margins.

I have a 70ipd and the separators just don't work right for me (focus is completely off) so I deal with a blurry right eye.

Did you use the B cups? the separators don't work with A cups, only after I fitted them and vision became much worse I started reading through instructions, changed to B cups and everything was sorted, everything so clear that I can count the green subpixels.
In my case correcting the IPD with hardware and software made a major difference.

Yea I used the B cups and their software (tried without too). Everything was just not in the right focus and I was starting to feel ill, something I NEVER feel in elite. Apparently some of us are more sensitive to this based on their reddit thread, at least two others had the same issue. Apparently the fix involves shaving down the contacts in your DK2 and I honestly don't trust my DIY skills enough to do so.

yes, I've seen this threads, luckily it worked for me. This is the problem with OR, you buy it, then if it turns out you don have the correct face then you are in trouble, and it is extremely difficult to get any help as you are the only person ho can see it. Wonder how this IPD adjustment will work in CV1....

I never stop learning - ED has layers and layers of depth - a simple discovery like this makes the game all fresh again. Thank you for the info - it makes a HUGE difference +1

This didn't make the slightest bit of difference for me. Adjusting it in the oculus configuration utility is what works for me, as it should.
We seem to keep having this discussion over and over again. I'm starting to wonder if there is a bug that affects some people only, that is preventing ED from reading the oculus config utility file, so they need to manually set it in ED. That might explain the discrepancy between users.

The setting in my file says <IPDAmount>0.001000</IPDAmount> and my eyes haven't imploded. Pretty sure it's not using that for me because I don't have any eye strain issues. In other games I get sore eyes pretty quickly if it's not set right in the oculus config tool.

I have noticed in some games that the ipd seems to go wrong when out of camera range. Is everyone who sees a benefit from changing this setting using the camera and the latest oculus drivers?

I tried that value early on and it made no visual difference.
But awesome from Frontier to not say a word about it, I start to think they don't know it themself.

I also have 70 ipd and i use the VR-Gear: http://www.vr-gear.com/
It makes a huge difference and it's worth every cent! If you use the VR-Gear attachments for the oculus, you also have to use the VR-Gear intercepter software which overrides all ipd settings to the correct one you are using. So you don't have to change the settings in E:D config.

To figure out what's going on (re the it does vs doesn't make a difference discussion) it would probably help if people report whether they're using extended or direct mode. I could imagine direct mode using the oculus config option, while extended uses ED's.

measuring ipd the easy way

This is exactly what I ordered today. And I thank the OP for making me think.
I also have a large ipd 69.8 and although I think the oculus calibration tool appeared to function wel I realise my view isn't going straight through the lenses.

So I placed my chin upon my fist and leaned against a mirror closed my right eye and doted my left eye pupil mirror image with a whiteboardmarker.without moving did the same with my other eye and measured that with a ruler.
:)

Why? You'll find that as ED uses the latest SDK, it should automatically use your reconfigured IPD from the Oculus Service Manager.

It's Inter-Pupil-lary Distance. If you look into someone's eyes you will see two schoolchildren staring back at you. The IPD is the distance between those two children. You can use a tape measure to get this size, but don't ask one of the children to hold an end for you. They'll just offer you an end of their own tape measure instead.
omg i love you.

I used a somewhat modified version of this approach.

My rift wont arrive for at least a week yet, so I didn't take any time to verify it. But I held this bad boy up to the mirror, and after checking and rechecking a few times I was pretty confident that this is the correct number.

Tru but if you like to know more then what the software tells you.....
plus my ipd is too large for the rift the rift to compensate so checking if the measurements are correct.
then I ordered rings to correct the hardware. When those arrive il check weather the service manager will work with that. Does anybody already know? Please report :)

Lucky you your ipd is near perfect

the difference between 53 and 65 might not be noticable, but try changing it from say, 3 to 65 and you should notice something
