Wolves

I have to admit that the first thing I did in sandbox was to build a wolf habitat. This was mostly due to personal interest, because I'm currently specializing on the canidae family as a zoologist.I wanted to see if the wrong behavior and colour/markings variatons were updated.
Sadly it's still the same as in the beta.
I started with a breeding pair in a perfect enclosure, their welfare was at 100 and everything was alright. The female gave birth to 4 pups ( 1 male 3 female). As soon as the puppies grew up,the battle royal started. One female killed her 2 sisters and her mother, the father killed his last remaining daughter and was then killed by his son,who was the last remaining wolf.Space, food or boredom was not the issue.
All of the 6 wolves looked the same and were literally copy pasted. There was no difference in fur colour or markings - the only difference was the size.
This bothered me since the beta, because wolves (especially timber wolves) are one of the mammals with the most colour genes/combinations/variations and have a complex social need.

Yeah. If the wolves are not fixed, honestly this game is completely ruined for me. Wolves are the animal I am the most interested in, and if they couldn't even bother to get wolves right... Why should I even bother to keep playing? Even ZOO TYCOON got the wolf pack dynamic right with parents/offspring/siblings. :/

The Zoopedia itself even OUTRIGHT SAYS that wolves live in family packs, so clearly the devs KNOW how wolves work, so why can't we actually have wolves in family packs in game??? It makes no damn sense.

100% agreed, I love the game but this is by far my biggest disappointment.

Yea,the answer during the beta was, that such features are just not implemented yet,but will be present in the full game.I'm curious what answer we will get now.The game looks super gorgeous and it feels really awesome while playing, but I'm really getting disappointed, because it seems that not much has changed regarding animals since the beta - except for example retractable claws and refined climbing mechanics.Just to give some examples: primates still don't interact with each other except for mating, although being one of the most active animal families (I guess this is the case for all other animals then, too),warthogs and bears still have sexual dimorphic colours, which is totally inaccurate and the constant fighting is still occurring...

Yeah. I wanted to make a wolf sanctuary. Stinks when you can't keep them in family groups and they all look the same.

My game is still updating so I haven't had a chancd to check it out. Was the habitat still big enough once the babies became adults? Or did you not get a chance to check if that had changed? Just wondering if that could be an issue.

Space, food, boredom or the overall welfare was not the issue. It's just the same constant fighting issue from the beta.

I hate to admit it, but wolf behavior was better in the beta. Sure, they fought for dominance occasionally, but that was mildly annoying at most. At least you could have more than two adults in an enclosure.

The positive that's come out of this is I've done more reading on wolves than I ever have before (yay educational). But yes, this is an issue. Wolves should have the odd contest for alpha status maybe but otherwise there shouldn't be fights if the habitat can provide a reasonable amount of space/food/enrichment. These animals roam in packs of 10s-30 with disagreements resulting in individuals leaving the pack. But with family? Hmm, doesn't seem realistic.

It's odd to be talking about this again when this was a big topic during the beta...but here we are.

I can forgive the lack of visual diversity for now with the hope that in time they can introduce more patterns/fur colouring.

There are some interesting options in the settings, at least in Sandbox mode ( i have not checked other modes) Several disables such as disable animal aggressive behavior! I love that. You can also disable death.. and I think births as well

See, the problem is, I shouldn't HAVE to disable death and fighting altogether just to make my wolves behave like they're supposed to, and show the absolute BASE REQUIREMENT behaviors of being wolves.

Plus, this means wolves have absolutely no friendly interactions with eachother as packmates- all they're gonna do is wander around aimlessly, never interacting as a pack, so what's the point??

totally agree with you I love the game but the pack size should be at least be a little bit bigger or a family tree so that you can see who's who

They didn't need to archive the Beta Feedback thread, because literally almost every issue is nothing new,but present since the beta.
Quite disappointed. :)
The Beta Feedback forum was archived so that it wouldn’t get mixed up with feedback from the release version of the game. There’s a lot of new content in the game since launch and it would become messy to have that mixed up with older feedback.

That being said, every bit of feedback, both regarding new content and older beta content, and both reported previously and since release, is greatly appreciated by the team, as it helps a lot in making Planet Zoo an even better game!

I also will post about the Timber wolf here, I loved these during the beta! But now they aren't as fun. The Group Size of 2-2 up to 1 male up to 1 female is terrible. As others also mentioned the fight for alpha dominance,I loved that too! It felt like a proper pack of wolves, during beta testing I build large enclosures for them so I had enough space for a group of adults and for the babies to roam around. Which now isn't very appealing if only two wolves can be tolerated. I hope this will be changed in the future, it is a game in the first place and everything else is second. I understand you try to 1 on 1 real zoo or animal groups but keep it fun. You could allow bigger sized groups through research (like Jurassic World) or even base it on the size of the enclosure, which I can imagine being a pain to program. Just hope the group size can be increased based on everyone's feedback. I mean Greater Flamingo can have up to 500, I'm sure the wolves can have a few more too ;)

You... you do realize this exact same issue was a thing in the beta, too, right? People were already complaining about it back then? You could never have more than 2 wolves without them fighting.

I would love this to be tweaked.
One of the things I was most looking forward to when the game was announced was making a wolf enclosure and watching the pack run through the forest and howling at the moon.

During the Beta I was able to have up to 6 adult wolves with ease before getting a notification of one being injured, they would fight for alpha position but didn't fight as frequent as they seem to do now, might be the messages display more often about the fights, no clue, but my beta experience with the Timber Wolves was more positive than now. Besides I think it is important to address it, if I don't share my experience nothing will change :) Surly more people feel the same so hopefully the group size gets changed in the future, if it doesn't it is just a shame and we would have to accept it. Still plenty to play around with in the game and I can always try to make a multi enclosure with wolves with null barriers and fake that it is one big enclosure :)

Yeah, I built a huge enclosure to have room for all of them, instead I can only have 2 non-interacting wolves.
I went to a wildlife sanctuary in Utah and they had white wolves, black wolves, brown wolves, reddish wolves, blonde wolves. At least 8+ wolves were in the enclosure.
