Won't let me go there, won't let me land, won't let me dock

Another wonderful Elite experience. I'm not sure why I keep coming back for more.

I spawn on the orbital thing at Azeban. I can't actually reach Azeban City because, I presume, from where I take off there's a dirty great planet in the way.

So I turn around and probably head back to where I started. I request docking and proceed to land. No matter what I do the thing just won't accept I'm sitting right on the green bullseye.

Give up and turn around. This time I do have a clear shot to Azeban City. Huzzah.

I arrive there after an interminable wait and - no request docking option. At this point I give up and just fly inside to try my luck. Obviously get shot to pieces.

I really want to like this. And I'm glad to see there is some kind of info on how far you can go with such and such a load. But, heavens above, this game is making it difficult.

Here's an idea, just to show I can be constructive. When you're hyperspacing your way somewhere, if there's a planet in the way, how about creating a "tube" route you have to follow. You know, hoops you must pass through around the obstruction. Rather than having to faff about trying to slog your way to a better angle.

In all honesty it feels like I just wasted another hour faffing about rather than playing a game.

if your hyperjump target is behind a planet, then deselect target and enter hypercruise. The cruise away from the planet and select your target again, then hyperjump.

I agree with the planet in the way issue. I suggested that the system could just ask you to press the FSD button again to enter supercruise instead, a bit like you have to double tap to get out of supercruise in an emergency.

I have found if you do not get and clearance to land (always being denied), turn tale to jump into supercruise for a few seconds, turn around to face the station and jump back out again. Normally that allows be to dock.

Dude, be sure you are requestin docking in the "contacts" tab. I once requested it from the nav menu and was cursing at bugged beta, but it was my mistake...

In supercruise you can just navigate around the planet. You don't need to have a target locked to enter supercruise. Unlock the target and enter supercruise without any target. Fly around the planet and lock the target when you have a clear line of sight. Hope this helps

If you ask to dock when another ship has been using the pad just before you, you can occasionally get the pad stuck in the reverse position. On the docking assist screen, did your ship appear to come in from the 'top down', rather than the usual 'bottom up'? If so, rotate through 180 degrees, then try to dock again.
.
If that didn't happen, or the docking-assist screen didn't appear, either a) cancel the docking request and re-request it or b) exit to the main menu and come back in.
.
And your tubes in space idea does have merit. Some more, optional, visual indicators on the HUD would be nice, but folks round 'ere like to keep their window glass clean for some reason. :)
