"working on something secret for PC and Mac"

The Elite: Dangerous team is bigger than ever, and the majority are working on something secret for PC and Mac. It's not quite ready for the world just yet, but we'll be able to tell you more at Gamescom. Believe us: we can hardly wait.
PS4 time-exclusive expansion which will make us really jealous. I'm calling it now.

I hope the Thargoids (and potentially other alien races) are introduced gradually as unannounced features of future updates - for example mysterious sensor readings/sightings when out in the void exploring, that would be cool. This would leave the announced parts of the updates to flesh out the core gameplay mechanics such as bounty-hunting/piracy/powerplay etc which all need a bit more meat to them.

I can't see planetary landings arriving until mid 2016 at the earliest as full paid expansions don't usually get released for at least 18 months after the launch of a game.

Unfortunately Michael said recently that iron man mode won't be landing any time soon. It's not only a dying though - there's manual escape capsule launch, other threats, etc. There's quite list of dependencies to fulfill before even thinking about rolling out such feature.

Still my feelings remain the same, this one change would make a huge difference.
manual escape mechanics and 'other' threats are not essential and Iron man wouldn't be difficult to add within the existing game. With just the removal of insurance, and maybe a charge incurred for rescue services back to the nearest station. I would also advocate the restriction of one ship per pilot.

Given they have stated this is a 'big' surprise, Ironman is not an impossible dream and might even come as part of an EVA function.
It would certainly add an originally expected feature as well as give Elite some of the 'danger' it lacks

Alternatively just a second save slot would be huge for me

Would you like a list of the predictions made on these forums for the demise of the game because of the removal of a single player mode.
For the demise of the game because of a "rushed release" in december 2014.
For the demise of the game because FD is "losing money at X per month" (ffr has been rather quiet of late.....).
For the demise of the game because of the "dumb flight model".
For the demise of the game because it is to be released on the Xbox one console.
For the demise of the game because it doesn't have guilds.
For the demise of the game because of supercruise.
For the demise of the game BECAUSE.....

So let's rather make it real.

As my Mathematical Logic teacher would say - "proper construct would be for the demise of the x because of y", and ergo, you have defined 90% of teh Interwebz communication.

Has anyone else kept looking at the large and small Magellanic Clouds and thinking.... "There's a few more billions of stars there..." :D

They're going to fix things like comms & instancing before adding more new stuff, right?

No, they are going to introduce Gerping, a tri mode mini game where players can log in and launch a list of things other players are doing with a 'like' 'dislike' and 'share' button so we can all care more about how everyone else plays rather than ourselves. It seems popular enough on forum, maybe it will work. :D (j/k)

I heard they have dedicated the entire team to fixing instancing and "netcode stuff".

Every developer from every department. The sound guys (they are going to make some cool sounds to enhance instancing and netcode) and the artists (they are going to make some cool instancing art).

I also hear the HR/Accounts team are all on instancing right now.

Also the office cleaners. No office cleaning until instancing is fixed.

The postman too

I heard they have a whole team dedicated to ordering pizza and making coffee. They also work on cakes and bugfix beer and wine.
They want to tell us about a future update 3.14159265359 - The Pie Update ... but creative design can't agree on what filling to develop.
They also want to add new custom doughnut toppings in the store, but are having a problem rending them due to the beer & wine bug fixing.

(100% not true and not serious so don't think it for one moment it is)

hello pandora, how is your box

Well, since it looks like they are focusing on financing the development... I think the next step after the xbox version, will be the first paid expansion, whatever that is.

There was also talk of a new kickstarter to buy develop more pizza. Pledge levels would have been to get a free pizza box (minus contents), a signed pizza box (minus contents), choose what toppings would be on the pizza, and one lucky pledger could have the privilege of being the one to go the local pizza shop and carry all the pizza back (this is known in the industry as "outsourcing").

The kickstarter was scrapped ... no reason given. :p
