Would getting a 970 make this game playable with the OC DK2

Just to let you know, the CV1 has been coming out "soon" for a stupid long time now. They aren't even giving the year it will be released. (Every time I read one of these post that says it will be out x time. It turns out they were trying to read between the lines in some article or rumor mill, and they didn't take the face value of what's being said. In fact, recently I seen a dozen post and rumor mill articles saying it was going to be announce this past week.)
.
Thanks.. but I am fully aware of the time lines that have been laid out by oculus. You don't need a rumor mill.. Oculus CEO has already stated exactly what the timeline is, in all it's vagueness. "many months" is the quote... implying less than a year. Which puts is right at the end of 2015.. but with delays, im sure we are looking at early 2016.

This is what I'm talking about. You're reading between the lines and trying to find a real answer that may not be there.

For one, many months maybe like someone in a minute. In reality, that in a minute could be a few hours. Where as the many months could be years.
Also, what many months means to you, may means 100% different to the CEO. Is 3 many months? Is 24 many months? Is 10032423423 many months? (Basically, you can say WWII happen many months ago, and you would be 100% right in most eyes)

Personally, I think many months means I don't know. As you said, it's too vague.

Personally, I think they are going to hold it off until the others release their thing. That away they can 1 up everyone.

Why would you do that? Shadows make the game look SOO much better. I would rather run shadows on medium, than no-shadows on high.

And to the op... getting a different video card is not going to help the short commings of resolution, SDE, and pixel density of the DK2. Maybe if you run a REALLY high-end setup, maybe 980s in SLI... you could super sample. But in my book, it is a waste of money. Don't buy twin 980s right now for $1000... wait until the CV1 comes out and buy whatever the two best cards you get for $1000 at THAT time. You will end up with a better kit, come CV1 release day. Fow now, I am getting by with a single 970.

The shadows provide some realism that's for certain but they are just far too jaggy for my liking - with OFF you still get a load of shadows, it's just a few station shadows and cockpit shadows that are missing.

And yeah I really do think that despite the benefits these GPU's would provide the op now we are now getting too close to CV1/Vive - you will want to upgrade again when they get released no doubt for the benefits of reduced SDE and you will want more horsepower to run the game at the necessary framerate (90+) .

Patience will save you a lot of money here.

Thanks. I just bought it. It will be in on the 13 :D

I needed a new card anyways because my current several year old card is given out. Every so often the video goes out for a super split second. (I know this could be a driver problem, but the timing is random and for no reason.)

Ahh :) Well you won't be disappointed with the performance, let us know how you get on and if you need any help setting up.

I have a question about your 970 video card. I don't plan on using DK2 so my question. Im using a 660 video card all settings at max except for supper sampling which is at 1.0. I set it to 2.0 and all the line jaggies became solid. but my framerate dropped to 34. Not good. would going to a 960 not 970 increase my framerates to over 60?

This is a thread about the DK2. If not using the DK2, and using a monitor instead, even my GTX470 from 5 years ago could play the game on ultra settings with perfectly fluid motion. A 970 would be overkill for a monitor at this point.

I just got and try the 970. It's like a night and day on the before and after.

This massively improved the text where I can actually read it. The graphics are great (with a few edges on high details areas).

RIP twinkling stars :(

BTW, this one thing made the loading times from about 3 min to 20 seconds, and the loading time in station services from 30 seconds - 1 min to 3 seconds. But, I'm also with an i7 and 16GB of ram.

While the GPU could potentially affect your ability to load the game (textures, shaders etc into VRAM) or through overall system stability; more likely what you were experiencing is slowness in your connection to the FDEV server that handles all the handshaking. (Slowness at their end or yours.)

I'm using an 840 EVO ssd and loading times can be really quick and then sometimes really slow on ED; if I load Farcry 4 however, despite that it is far more stressing on my computer as a whole and uses far more video memory, Farcry 4 routinely loads almost immediately.

I am quite confident it is a connection issue perhaps with FDEV having limited logon servers and your wait being tied to queue times to use those servers.

Alternatively it is based on the objects within the system you are loading into - so a system with 32 objects would take longer than a system with 4. But I still think that connection speed is much more likely.

On the more relevant part of your post : I am happy to see you are enjoying your upgrade :) Feel free to add me in game and if we are on together sometime we can meet up and make an Oculus wing to do some flying together.

With the recent changes to combat and exploration rewards I have switched from trading my way to a better ship to getting my combat experience up and I currently inhabit solo mode while I learn how to deal with each ship and load out.

My CMDR name is as is on the forum.

the 970 most likely will not make it clearer. The resolution on DK is what it is no matter what video card your using. What the 970 will do is give you a better frame rate so that your not getting the motion sickness thing. My dad is running sli 970's and I'm running sli 980's. Text is blurry and you have to lean in to read, but it is what it is. The card works great. The resolution will not be improved until they release the consumer version of oculus rift. Even with it being what it is, its the only way I would play Elite... good luck with your choice.
