Would the sound dpt. pls stand up (and go on live stream) pls.

Thx for linking the videos. So it has been 3yrs. since we heard from them, pun intended.

About time to hear more.

In the meantime: What is your favourite sound in Elite?
For me I can get very carried away by the ambient sound alone on a planet at times.
And the warning chime in the Orca rocks!

The music that plays when you are sat on a planet viewing a desolate or beautiful scene always feels appropriate. One piece reminds me of "Out of Africa."

Sound team has produced simply excellent work since day one. You can listen to your ship and know what it's doing. If you're paying attention you can set your pips by sound alone. Even differently-allied targets have different sounds when target cycling. The team is bang on with their work.

Maybe they are shy or something? :p
But you're right, they're doing the greatest working in sound i've ever heard. It's awesome and so atmospherical, always matching perfectly.

I said it before and I say it again:

The work of FDs sound dpt. is awesome, it is the part of the game that never received substantial negative critic, isntead it is applauded by most players since the beginning.

They sure know how to create atmosphere and cool effects. They haven't been awarded by the game industry enough for this, the work is not matched by any other space sim I know about. Now, watching the asteroid explosion on the beta release trailer one can savely say they did it again. You guys rule and are one of the reasons I cannot let go of ED!

I do not know if it had been done before, but I feel it is certainly time to get the sound artists on one of FDs live streams soon. I'd like to see them and hear how they work, what inspires them and so on. Space is supposed to be silent and I am so happy that FD is not sticking to realism at all here.

Ed & crew if you are reading this, pls. make it happen.:)

Cheers,

Kate

I second that. Sound and music in ED are outstanding beautiful. Thank you so much for this.

S!

They had two audio people back for the Chapter two launch stream (at 2:05:00 if the url timestamp doesn't work)

Very much agree with the sentiments in this thread.

The only slight exception for me is the ADS honk, but other than that the whole soundscape is superb in every detail.

It's the sheer brilliance of the sound that makes it seem almost unfair to have to put up with the many and varied minor naffnesses in the game.

Totally agree. The sound design in this game has been absolutely top notch since day one and continues to be so to this day.

And as if FD wanted to confirm again: THESE SOUNDS FROM THE PLANETS! (as demonstrated in tonights explo live stream).
OMG - pls let the sound artists talk on stream about how they did it!

Just wanna say thank you FD for the Discovery Scanner 3 video - it is all that I hoped for when starting this thread!
What a great sound team you have!

That was an awesome stream, yeah!
I really hope the Discovery Scanner streams will be more regularly now. I want moar!

The Audio department are unrivalled in the gaming industry IMHO.

Has anyone else noticed the ADS almost plays a scary little tune if you tap it rapidly? If I had a musical not in me I bet there is an easter egg in there if you tap it at a certain rhythm.

If I could ask for more it would be more of that radio chatter around stations, oh and could we have more random creaks groans and bangs from the ships maybe build a procedurally generated sound pattern for each ship you buy so each ship has a unique sound? Could it be done?

Adding to the chorus... The sound and music are outstanding. Truly exceptional. There are so many details and subtelties in what is happening at any one time, and they all add immensely to my enjoyment of the game. I am not the biggest fan of the 3.3 update in a number of areas, but the sounds are the one element which is consistently excellent throughout it.

Bravo, sound team! :)

Sitting at night, Oculus Rift on, all lights off, in a SRV on a planet with Guardian ruins or whatever...

Don't need atmospheric planets - that's enough atmosphere right there.

I don't know if the sound team deliberately worked on VR sounds, but unless I'm just imagining it, the positional awareness is absolutely spot on - and I could just sit there for hours just listening to the background sounds and music.

I know not of any other game in recent memory that has such consistently superb audio.

I absolutely add my vote to a livestream with this talented team. On the proviso that Ed shuts up a little bit more :D
