Hardware & Technical Would this machine run ED well?

I have a 1060 6gb FE, overclocked (2100 mhz, GPU memory clock at 4600 mhz), and it runs Elite on highest settings at 1080p, incl. 1.5x supersampling and anti aliasing at a solid 60fps 99% of the time. In some rare cases while supercruising, or at the Guardian ruins there are drops to 30fps, but I think it isn't related to the GPU.
Note, that I have 3000mhz 16gb ram and a 7700k, so the rest of the rig isn't bottle-necking the GPU.

I recon I'll be able to upgrade to an 1440p monitor, remove supersampling/antialiasing and have the same performance at 60hz.

GTX 1060 6 GB is a beautiful graphic card

A good price / power compromise

How about this one?

AMD Ryzen 5 1400 3.2 GHz, GTX 1060 3G, 500GB SSD with 3D NAND, 16GB DDR4 2400, A320 Motherboard

A pretty good budget system. 4 cores with 8 threads. No overclocking on the Motherboard though, but at least you can upgrade to the new CPU's in the future.

Whether it's good enough for VR is another question though. It might be.

On the VR side of things, it might depend on what VR you intend to use. It seems that the Windows mixed reality sets are less demanding on the PC. I built my first PC four years ago, and it'd still above the specs of laptops in this video that run VR okay. A compromise in graphics settings would have to be made, of course. With WMR headsets (if you want room scale play, as opposed to sit down) a Bluetooth 4.0 adaptor is required for positional tracking as it uses inside out tracking.

This is based on reading reviews and watching YouTube videos, so I could be wrong, but it may be worth investigating in cases of not having a top spec system.

Thanks for the replies guys. I purchased the following because it was on sale and I got it for 400usd off. I'm hoping it will be able to run the game in 4k, but I'm not sure that it will. I will also add a solid state drive.

Intel Core i5 7th Gen 7600 (3.50 GHz) 8 GB DDR4 1 TB HDD 16 GB Optane Memory NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8gb

Well, that'll do it.

4k may be a pipe dream at anything above 30fps but it will manage it.
