Would you be mad if FD implemented a ship's computer?

I'd like it, if only because Voice attack doesn't work well with Scottish accents (thanks to using old Win7 microsoft voice recognition engine) and I haven't the patience to reteach it.

... with voice recognition, custom voice overs, and much, more more? I can see this type of computer doing amazing things that are not currently available in 3'rd party apps. It would seriously irk the VoiceAttack and HTC Voice Pack people though. But seriously, this is something that should have been in the game in the first place.

What do you think?
We already have custom voice overs... that is what COVAS is.

As for voice recognition, forget it - it is far from reliable, but if you want that then there is VoiceAttack (as you have pointed out); However, it is dependent on Microsoft's voice recognition which is total pants IMO/IME... even after training it.

Voice Recpgnition in itself is a VERY specialised field and there have been various attempts at it over the years... most seem to have died off due to apathy from the consumer base primarily due to lack of consistent accuracy over a wide variety of voices. Then there are privacy concerns with at least some of the modern voice recognition systems (Alexa, Google) due to an apparent reliance on internet based interpretation.

For me (as a VoiceAttack user), it would be already enough if FDev finally caved in and provided a shortcut for docking requests.

It baffles me why this often requested QoL does not get included. Surely, it is not as complex to code as the engineer stuff right ? ...

Also, they could "upgrade" our ship's computer to include auto docking and departure. This can be toggled on or off, for those that prefer manual docking. This can be a great QoL for new players and old. :D

I forget what it was called but there was a pretty good RTS, a few years ago, which had the "headline feature" of voice control.

It was kind of fun but there were two big problems.
1) the voice-recognition wasn't entirely reliable.
2) it wasn't always convenient to rely on voice recognition.

I'm sure the first thing would improve with time but the 2nd issue hasn't changed.
When I'm playing the game at 2am, I don't really want to have to say "deploy hardpoints", "target Lincoln station", "retract landing gear", or whatever, constantly.
I'd rather just push a button, thanks.

I think you'll be able to jump/honk and have even less to do

game needs more depth, not less

I wouldn't use the inbuilt voice command system if they implement one. I've gotten used to Voice Attack and so I'd continue to use it.

But I would give my blessing to such a system. The poor blighters on the consoles don't have voice-activated commands. Those who haven't shelled out for 3rd party solutions don't have voice-activated commands. I don't mind the coders spending time on working on something that might attract new players to the game, even though it's not something I'd use myself.

We have no 3rd party anything.. that would be fantastic if we could even link via API, instead of leeching off the pc stats..

Exactly! FD should give is depth so the ship's computer can focus on the tedious stuff. But so far, and three seasons, I see no signs of gameplay evolving.
