...If you knew that no further work, other than bug fixing was to be done for it?
This is a question that i was asking myself while reading the user reviews on Metacritic. In my mind ED is a solid 8, but in truth, it's a solid 8 for me because i am excited about planetary landings, passenger/tourist missions, more ships, the 'transmission not sent' bug being fixed, maybe npc's at stations with more character, and then if i ask myself that question i have to say, what do i have now?
Well right now i have addictive mission running, a giant, beautiful galaxy, a genuine feeling of being in a real ship and a feeling of wonder as i travel through space. I have those things, but i'm infuriatingly aware of what the game seems to be lacking too. I'm always passing planets thinking, i want to go down through the atmosphere and burst through the raining, stormy clouds, and land on a hill, and just get out and enjoy the view. I go to stations and i wish for faces, for some sort of roleplay effect to give these places some more character. And i wish my messages would actually be received by my friends, but that's just a nasty bug.
ED is the first game for me where what is not there is as important as what is there, so for me the answer to the title question is no, i love the future ED more than what i currently have, and i see the current game through rose-tinted specs because of it. I can't ever remember hoping so much that a game will have more added to it, actually kerbal Space program is the only other one, i hope they go on getting better and having things added for a long time.
