would you pay a subscription for ED?

Couldn't do a poll as I'm on my phone, but there's the question, I personally would if meant to secure longevity of the game, ensuring bigger better updates, allowing the game to expand into what could be the game we want it to be, ensures costs for server maintenance etc, I would quiet happily pay a fiver a month for this, what do you reckon?

NO! They still haven't delivered on the Mercenary Package. I can't support a monthly subscription when I haven't gotten what I paid for initially. Sorry, just mho, but a monthly would be waaaayyy down the road.

NO!. if they make it a subs model for new people going forward, well that is up to FD, but I already paid £115 for the game BECAUSE it promised no subs. As I knew I was getting the complete game content I threw in a little extra.

I have no interest in ever paying a monthly sub on any game.... even Elite.. It rewards people who have no other commitments and punishes those with a job, family and other stuff who can only grab an hr here and there. MAYBE if it had been paying for blocks of 100hrs gametime, I would have gotten onboard, assuming the game had no / or very small upfront cost, but now given what I have already paid, I would not do that either.

but its not going to happen so its moot. :)

Probably not. I got into it mainly for DK2 reasons and seeing what an actual 'game' played like in the Rift. It was a gift so no sweat off my back for the beta buy-in but for what's here? Probably not.

I would spend more money in the cash shop on 'things' if I could ever see it on my ship. I mean, I can't even move the camera around and really look at my ship even in a dock! They're selling designer sunglasses to blind people. It's kind of funny really.

But no, I wouldn't pay monthly. There isn't enough content and if 'community goals' is a view into their 'PVE' vision, they would have to pay me after a few of those.

As it stands right now, not a chance, and nowhere close to enough people would, there is simply nothing to pay a subscription for. As for any idea of the game transitioning from its current p2p model to server based, not happening, this is what FD have built as their game engine, they aim to sell it, changing it woudl be a bigger project that it took to launch it in the first place :) FD need to explain how they are going to deliver the 'content' most people want and what they see that content being.

Not sure

I'd prefer not to. I generally can't put enough time into subscription games to make it worthwhile. No matter how good they are. That said, I recognise that WoW and others have demonstrated that the subscription model works for content heavy games.

I'd prefer that E:D not become WoW in space though.

yes, if they changed the model to server based, to negate the limit on 32 per instance..

What are you referring to? There seem to be a lot more than 32 players zipping around at anyone one time.

I'm excited about the prospects. I really enjoy the updates and continue to look forward to the prospects of the Mercenary edition coming out. But the game is still buggy. Just last night, I came back from a deep space exploration mission and had over a hundred new systems to sell. I even discovered two new systems that I got credit for, but after getting credit for those 2 and acknowledging them, the rest of my systems were deleted. I had over a million credits worth of systems to sell. I tried to reset the game and they were still gone. I managed to sell just over 250,000 cr worth before the rest were deleted. - buggy.
