Would you start over if Frontier was to start a separate open only server?

That was a little unkind as by his join date he may be still pretty new to the game...
about a year and half. I really wanted to make sure I understood it. I've scanned plenty of ships high waking. I've never had to do it to get out of a mess. Because I don't play in open because I ultimately just don't feel like playing fox/hound with people. I have other games to play for my PvP experience. I will however entertain Ganksalot's offer if only for my edification. Still won't change my mind about would you start over if....

as the OP said it would be for PC for the lack of cross play in ED. you stated you are a PS4 player. it is irrelevant what you say you would or wouldn't do.
So no True Scotsman. Geeze how many logical fallacies can you fit in your tantrum that most (regardless I am on PS4) on here or at least in this thread don't or won't start over...

As for the skill to play in open... Is that the same skill needed to get Combat elite? This 'special' knowledge, oh my! what might that be...

I actually read your suggestion and commented on it, but disrespect to other players because they may not agree with you, that is truly heroic, wouldn't you agree?
no I wouldn't. I know that when I decided to play open only I had to adjust my play style accordingly. no more flying around paper ships in the bubble, making sure all important blueprints pinned, planning my routes, hitting ctrl+b every time I log on, and focusing on survival in general instead of min-maxing everything. it's actually more of a mentality than skills. learning how to evade a gank is actually simple and doesn't require much skill. i find people going into open unprepared and thinking they will play the same game as in solo/pg just foolish. the ones that blame players like me for their failures in game I look down on.

the consensus is that most people here lack the knowledge and skill to play in open. just look at you, as you were asking questions about one of the most fundamental, if not the most important game mechanic of ED, high waking. if Frontier bothered to explain their own game trough a training campaign or something, the sentiment would be totally different.

It's not a matter of skill or knowledge (to me). It's more matter of people. If i'm a neutral trader and i'm blown up because my ship is weak , with no piracy involved there is no point. The "ganker" that did this , did it for fun / ego / superiority. I'm not into that. If game made some risk about being pirated yeah i'll gladly come , but people act more like murderer than pirates. And to be honest the game lack tools for piracy.

It lack focus. Imagine that war may be actually more rare and hight rewarding , like some automatic war CG with rewards for the best ect. With open boost for score or whatever . Imagine if pvp actually had some aim out of meaningless fight/training they do ?

As usual elite have a world of possibilities, but lack dev or will to devellop this.

But open as it is now ? no. 0 positiv interaction appart talking (and you can do it in solo/pg LOL) if you'r not pvp'er. Thats the point , what should lead you to open is people. But appart pvp you cant really interact with them. Funny flying with friend works for some time, but after , what to do ?

I reckon it's a mix of something to do with my internet connection (new PC, need to check connection settings) and the fact that people don't usually need to travel to the busy hotspots anymore and are more scattered about - I barely spend more than a few minutes at Jameson's (my previous home base) and due to the ability to park mere Mm's away from stations SC trips are very short now.

I still bump into other players now and then but it's very rare. Earlier in ShinDez I came across another player in SC (they were about to hi-wake) and 3-4 docked at the station. Used to be dozens at a time. But if I look at my own behavior, I 'live' on my FC now, worked the BGS in a tiny backwater system and also went to the Bubble nebula for an extended trip via NGC 7822 where I stayed for a week.

I've been out of the for the duration of covid (no room for spaceship flying toys and working from home gubbins). However engineer's, shindez and such are always busy. I saw lots of random players just pottering in the bubble, more than I've ever seen before recently. The squadrons pretty well in the middle though.

I have no idea what kind of player you may (or indeed, may not) be, but from that comment it appears you consider yourself something special... in a game... OK, it takes all kinds I suppose...

I'll try not to bait you further, it is so hard...

I said no to your question. My 'fundamental' knowledge or lack of is irrelevant to your question-period. Even if high waking out (not saying I cannot do it, I really don't care in the long run) I still wouldn't change my mind. Again, you've received a concensus on the simple and basic question. Don't know what to tell you. It was a loaded question that seemed to have not gone in your favor

I personally like the challenge for many aspects. Just not in open. You seem to have this conclusion or belief this game should be squarely a PvP type game. What do you want out of it? People playing in open so you can hunt those down for sport regardless of basic fundamental knowledge? I just don't feel like getting shot the fk up constantly in open, just to 'learn and git gud'.

Maybe you can ask next time...Would you for a million dollars........
Oh, wait. If I was offered a million dollars I'd probably change my answer from "no" to "yes". How long would I have to carry on playing before going back to the original game? :)

Might fare better without the super condescending attitude.

Just a thought, I guess this wasn't a real discussion thread considering the premise of observing how long it takes to get it locked.
I didn't see the need for discussion at all as you noted.

It is not a call for telling us why you don't play open, or what you think the motivations of gankers are, nor it is about whether it's worth splitting the player base between servers.

So PS4 (lack of Xplay), Xbone, PC, Mobile, all irrelevant in the end. Seems like it was designed for two fold. To get locked, the quicker the better (OP's prophecy) and secondly self righteous indignation.

In a theoretical universe where modes aren't used as a crutch to keep odd PvP feel, strange PvE orientation on important game mechanics, anemic security response that will do little against gankers, monetary consequences (like rebuy or bounties) being really oddly balanced, important combat balance numerics like typical TTK's being basically randomized... and so on... basically, in a theoretical universe where Elite: Dangerous is designed to work as a game with proper PvP, in that game I would be all for a separate Open Only server. Singleplayers can then stay in a snapshot of that server where they can play in the same universe, but obviously not affect things like BGS directly, that's obviously ridicilous.

As it is right now? Eeeeh... will there actually be something enjoyable? Will the player threat actually add something?
I think at some point the idea that this game would be designed with PvP in mind faded away... I feel like things like EDD tried to work out how nonconsensual PvP would work in a good way... look up a typical video of high-level PvP to see what the current state is.

If I had a chance to go back to my old account, I would definitely want to try out 'open only' server. Just to see a galaxy with BGS factions that make sense in some way would be worth it. I don't think I would want to stay, but it would be an interesting experiment. And maybe I am wrong and there will be interesting gameplay?

Given the hilarious amount of front loading in your opening post I wonder why you bothered posting this at all.

In particular, it's probably not the best idea to ask people not to give their opinion on why people don't play in open if you're then going to include statements like 'Opposed to popular belief, that all gankers were molested as children, the lack of competitive content is what drives the more experienced and established players towards ganking' since you're doing exactly what you don't want other people to do there; ascribing a generalised opinion to a group of people.

That's without even getting into the hilarious non sequitur of 'the reason people choose to engage in the least challenging PVP activity possible is that the game isn't competitive enough' which is essentially what you wrote there 😁

Anyway, no.

You should try PvP in Elite though. It can be amazing sometimes.
I love CQC and wish that was more developed. A strong PvP build in ED is just too op for the rest of game combat in the game imo and with a good build every fight is too much a long drawn out battle of attrician. Glad some lime it but not for me. Star wars squadrons OTOH has me interested and dare I say is now the better example than Cod for good space PvP shooter (hopefully)

I fought some of the best in this game and I can hold my ground against pretty much anyone. I don't combat log or cheat in general. I don't run to solo when I meet opposition. I take a re-buy as part of the game and don't go whine about it to anyone. I don't ever get ganked as I know how to get away from it. I do everything in open, mining, davs hope, whatever. I have all ranks at max, I fly fa-off in combat, I use mostly fixed weapons. I held one of leader positions in one of the largest power play group until I got sick of the 5C and other problems with PP. so you tell me, am I an average player of ED?
