Would you start over if Frontier was to start a separate open only server?

I would gladly play in an Open-only server.... with one proviso: if you combat log (via menu, task kill or disconnect) your ship continues floating in space for 2 minutes afterwards. You won't be aboard it, and you won't know if it survived or not till you log back in.
Eve Online already has something like this. Go play that, you'll love it

Oh, I know. I've played similar games and that's where this idea comes from. Because combat logging is sad and silly.

But regardless: I enjoy Elite, why should I leave?

The question from the OP was about a hypothetical Open -only server that would not affect the current Open/PG/Solo arrangement in any way. It's inherently designed to address the failings of the current system, but it would not affect you in any way.

You can't really outskill the fact somebody can sit in a cutter with G5 engineered prismatics and face tank you for days
There are some extreme cases to be made, sure. But two equally matched FDL's or a wing fight of FDL's, FAS's and Chieftain's, there are few PvP experiences better than that IMO.

It's a bad idea. If PvE players have no right to force a PvPer to NOT pvp.

Then a PvPer has no right to force a PvE'r to PvP when/if then DON'T want to.

How would creating a separate, stand-alone Open-only server affect anyone enjoying the current game?

An Open-only server where you would literally have to restart your game, giving up all your progress to date, just for the promise of playing in a truly all-Open, all the time environment?

No current players would be forced to migrate to it. It would likely only appeal to the most hardcore of hardcore PVP players and gankers. It would likely depopulate the existing Open environment of the same thing.

How in the heck are you not for this idea?

that's a nice image you built among all these carebears, I must give some props to you for that
You know what's cool, when you treat these people with respect they're more likely to support you and many of them have even decided to give PvP a try.
You should really try kindness instead of telling people they're stupid for not liking your proposal 🤷‍♂️
I put on some Enya to set the proper mood
And that is why you have failed
I must go do some BGS.
Have fun failing at it...
It makes such a lovely story :)

Be nice people, if you say something unkind you may get blocked...

The 3 modes were always intended to affect each other in BGS. It's how it feels alive. Don't like it? Again, go back to Eve Online. Git gud and learn to defend yourself against the big scary PvE carebears

Because the game in it's current state is heavily flawed and few would actually enjoy it and take part. If the game underwent some serious fundamental changes I'd probably be all for it. Most of which would be dedicated severs instead of P2P

The BGS? You mean the thing I completely ignore because it's utterly irrelevant and devoid of meaning or impact on anything I do in the game?
