Well so far from what I,ve seen there is no one else .. so to me it's all a bit of a joke off line was to big and online multilayer this game is not.

I would but not for playability reasons, I would prefer to be online all the time playing with others, unfortunately I'm in a place with very limited connectivity (it took 3 days to download the game.) So yes, offline mode would be useful right now, however I respect frontiers decision and can understand why they want to keep the universe in sync.

I'd probably dabble in it, maybe do some modding of my own, but I'd still spend the bulk of my time in Online open play.

Assuming that tweaks were made to factions and background sim to reflects a single input rather than tens of thousands, then I think that everyone currently playing Solo would have a better gameplay experience.

I would actually. Because I've met ONE player in all of my open play time and this frequent "daily maintenance" crap is really starting to bother me.

What is deeply saddening is making yet another generic single player game populated entirely by crappy ai when that is all we gamers have seen in the past 30 years, frankly i think most single player games are in bit of a creative flat earther mentality rut of "this is how we have always done single player mode, using purely ai is the only way we can do it".

What is deeply saddening is not making the AI better, instead of making it worse. It's not an MMO, 99% of your interactions will be with NPC's. So the game is just as crappy as a single player game with crappy AI, except even crappier than usual.

I like the game as it is, for what it is, which is great so far.

But I voted 'yes' because as with any game, I simply don't like being beholden to servers.

No. Most of the people are connected to internet 99% of the time. Plus if it helps keep piracy at bay, I am all up for it.

about only time i would use it is like now when the main server is offline other than that i would stick with private grouping

They said if they ever close down the servers they will allow people to run their own.

They said there "was" an offline mode....

Self fulfilling prophecy?!? the worst i can see is once people stop playing ED and influencing its world it will become yet just another generic single player game filled entirely with crappy ai like all the rest, most single player games have a short life span anyway woopie doo.

You see, this is the thing about Elite - it was always a long burner. Elite never had a "short" lifespan. In fact it is the longest lifespan game I can think of (other than solitaire, et al). My sadness is doubled because people cannot see this basic truth.
.
In effect, my opinion is that FDev, in catering purely to the online ethos, have effectively made a long burner epic game into a short lifespan pew pew.
.
All this debate about balance of weaponry and defense and agility and speed for PvP should have set its own alarm bells ringing a long time ago.
.
So a self fulfilling prophecy is still my prediction. I'll be glad if I'm wrong on that, so very glad indeed, but I strongly believe I am highlighting a huge issue here. So much for "vision".
