General / Off-Topic Would you water down Brandy...

No, to be fair; a good brandy like whiskey should be treated with respect.

Just drink the rum.

Unless it is something like an Apple brandy; which is basically distilled cider, then Brandy is very expensive to make and then it has to be aged, which requires a massive time investment.

Where do you get apple brandy Arry? In my local booze shop it costs a fortune. :)

Well, first I make myself some cider, which if I use a champaign yeast and white sugar; I can get to around 10% vol. Then simmer at about 85c and collect the steam.

I did some "research" ;) a while back..
85c is too high..
best around 175degF or 78degC
..and be careful..the first few drops are not fit for human consumption..

..you never heard that.. and I wasnt here :)

Grandmother and sucking eggs is all I can say. 78c to 82c for the first 2 to 5% of the approximate total will be poisonous methanol. The stuff that if you are lucky, makes you blind.

If you want flavour then you need to run things a little warmer, a little faster and don't forget the angels and fairies.

No need to be snotty about it.. my grandmother had all her teeth til she was 94 no need to suck eggs..
start at 78c to get rid of the "heads".. as you say, yeah 2-5% of volume would be about right.. hold it at 85c to get thru the middle then push it over 95 to clean the "tails"
I did say "a while ago" and the number came off the top of my head..
anything said in public forums should be taking with however many grains of slt you need..
go figure

The way I see it is simple. Given my current circumstances; if I get arrested for for this, then after a little time in the big house, someone is going to make me an offer I would be silly to refuse and I would be better off, a lot better off; because I don't just understand how to make the end product, I also understand how to build the equipment required to do so. Which I can legally sell in places like New Zealand etc..
