Wow! Did they listen to my idea?

I can imagine within the centre of a wing a cutter/vett/conda running turrets and loaded with a heal laser or 2 and providing a fire support and healer role for friendly fighters.

I'm really hoping that they have some kind of weapon mod that will allow damage to modules but not hull.

I haven't played Elite in ages now. I like the idea of piracy. But I've found it to be frustrating in practice. The ability to disable a ship without destroying it would go a long way to making PvE piracy more viable.

Something along the lines of the DU penetrator: punches straight through armor but once inside practically melts anyone and anything.

That'd be great. But to be honest, I wouldn't even need that much.

I'd just be happy with a weapon that did little-to-no hull damage or penetration at all, but that did normal damage to external hardpoints.

Shooting out the powerplant would be nice. But if I could just disable a ship's movement by firing out their engines, then force open the cargo hatch while they're stationary so all the loot stays in one damn place, then I'd be a happy boy. :)
 
Aaargh, these are not "magical healing lasers" they are lasers which transfer energy not primarily as heat but as, well, energy. I just hope they model the heat transfer associated with such a transmission of power so you cannot just keep applying indefinitely.
