Wow loving Elite in VR with a free AI assistant and EDDI plugin with Voice Attack.

Hi,

Just a quick post to say how much I am loving Elite, playing with a Rift S VR headset. It rocks,

I've altered the default female voice to the free male one, also have a virtual assistant and voice attack.

I run with Anbus AI ( free) and voice attack, have the plugin for EDDI which gives me info ( scrapes this) From other related sites for talk back trading, if I jump, gives me data from other star systems and the like. Loving it all.

I would look forwards to Oddeysey coming out, but it's not going to be VR so I wonder how that would gel with this, probably not too well.

If you have any more suggestions about improving the experience, I'm all ears, and you could also email me at adolpho10@hotmail.com

Thanks for Elite, way better in VR I used to play in wireframe on the Acorn ( showing my age in light years now).

Best see you in some system I tagged my first FDL with an Eagle mk2 sends some hairs up on your back of head. Good reward 4 that one too.

Odyssey is all in VR except when you go on foot, that part will be a projected screen in the headset, so it should work fine with the rest of your setup I think.

I think, for me, that I'll drop out from VR for Odyssey content I know I'll do on foot - it just feels 'wrong' on the loading screen moving my head and it moving with me, but the SRV / Flying on these 'new' assets should be enjoyable!

I like voice attack for the extra computer responses. I don't use it to actually activate things with my voice. I have trouble getting the map open/closed to trigger correctly because there seems to be no way to know if the map is open or not. You can try to keep an internal variable but you can't know if you got bumped out of the map by random events and it messes up tracking.
Still, the only voice I use is the now deceased Mira Furlan.

I’ll be very surprised if the on-feet parts are not virtual theatre style - so the projected screen remains static in space.

I plan to do the same and, honestly, the thought of it isn't really bothering me that much. Indeed, I need to take the headset off every now and then for a break. I don't expect to bounce back and forth between VR and flat often as I tend to focus on a single activity per play session most of the time.

I am exactly the opposite. Voice Attack has been a game-changer for me in VR, but I use it exclusively for voice commands. I found it jarring to have two different ship voices talking (sometimes at the same time), and opted to just use the standard in-game responses. In particular, I found the random "conversational" bits the HCS Voice Packs add in silly and superflous. I can't even remember which one I bought, I want to say it was ASTRA. To open/close the maps in VA, you can simply say "open/close galaxy/system map".

Upgrade the stock headset strap and get a sippy cup with a straw!

I haven't been able to find a way that voice attack knows if the map is open. My toggles eventually get out of sync so she says opening map when I'm closing etc.
The only way I've found is to install EDDI and use that since it reads the Journal and Status files and can tell when the galaxy map is open.

Interesting. Can it also tell if, say, weapons are deployed, lights are on, landing gear is down, and so on?

The only drawback is that sometimes there is a noticeable delay between something happening in Elite and EDDI registering it, but that's due to Elite not updating the journal and stats file immediately.

Why do you need the voice? Just have the toggle. It doesn't matter then if the map is on or off.
That's what I do.

ED has voices for landing gear once they are down etc. Just use them.

I agree, I play in VR or on my monitor depending on what I'm planning to do in any case, so this will be the same in many ways.
