The game is in need of a lot of fixes, but they don't or can't or don't want to spend time and money on things they can't advertise to make new sales. If it were subscription based there would be incentive to keep players but their isn't. The only incentive is new sales ad new expansion sales so that's where the time is spent, not on fixes to keep players happy.
If that were even remotely true (it isn't), it'd be an incredibly shallow, short-term and self-defeating form of stupidity. Remember:
Douglas Adams said:“Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws. The Hingefreel people of Arkintoofle Minor did try to build spaceships that were powered by bad news but they didn't work particularly well and were so extremely unwelcome whenever they arrived anywhere that there wasn't really any point in being there.”
Word of mouth matters in the age of social media.
