WTH is wrong with this game?

The game is in need of a lot of fixes, but they don't or can't or don't want to spend time and money on things they can't advertise to make new sales. If it were subscription based there would be incentive to keep players but their isn't. The only incentive is new sales ad new expansion sales so that's where the time is spent, not on fixes to keep players happy.

If that were even remotely true (it isn't), it'd be an incredibly shallow, short-term and self-defeating form of stupidity. Remember:

Douglas Adams said:
“Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws. The Hingefreel people of Arkintoofle Minor did try to build spaceships that were powered by bad news but they didn't work particularly well and were so extremely unwelcome whenever they arrived anywhere that there wasn't really any point in being there.”

Word of mouth matters in the age of social media.

I am getting really fed up with just touching the wall of the entrance and seeing my Anaconda blow up! WTH is wrong with the game mechanics? A simple little touch should not blow a ship up. I was on FULL shields, not going too fast then BANG!

Me suspects "not going too fast" was still too fast...

Useless game!

..or useless pilot...? :)

Much easier because it has faster yaw, pitch and strafing rates. It's also not as wide as a T9. As long as you aim high in the slot so your beer belly doesn't slap into the station wall it's easy docking.

Ok, thanks. I was just wondering why the Conda does this exploding thing. I manage fine in my Type 9, but I have to say I go WAY slower than in the video posted here of the Conda docking.

A big problem with the 'Conda over the T9 is that it is so much more chuckable, which leads to overconfidence. I'm guilty of having gear up and hovering over the pips and boost as I leave the mailslot. Approach and exit speeds of 100 to 150 are not uncommon.

I boost in my Type 9 just as I'm out of the mail slot....otherwise I always seem to get one of those loitering warnings. It's so darned slow

I don't fly a conda yet... but both of the videos posted here.. you guys are HAULING ASS Through the mailslot, and are already pitching your ship at an steep enough angle towards the pad before the rear of your ship clears the slot. I don't dock that fast with my pyhon... I also come in quite a bit more straight.

I agree with you there !

Finding it a bit odd you are having issues docking the 'conda.
Do you have any issues with any other ships?
How long you been playing?

Haven't condas been mysteriously exploding since 1.x patch when the ramming/impact rules were tweaked?

I'm not piloting the Conda in the video I posted (Kornelius Briedis is).

I personaly believe that I'm much more aggressive than he is. But I could be wrong, only my impression.

I've docked my Conda... many times. I usually come in at 75% thrusters speed, get down to 50% speed just before the toaster rack if alignment is needed, then back to 75% to traverse the slot. That's roughly 100~130 m/s, inside the slot. I very often hit things (walls, ships) on the way in. And always smash on the pad...

But no matter what I do, I never, ever, hit the underbelly inside the slot. And I've never exploded (despite docking like a maniac, basically).

Hello there

Dont invest any faith in the docking computer, it's got me killed on more than one occasion.

Dont get me wrong, I love it, I just dont trust it and know it wants to kill me.

Just like my cat.

@OP Go slow. Ensure you're insured.

You got an anaconda without learning how to fly a ship? Now that's an accomplishment.

This statement is not very constructive, is it. Have you flown an Anaconda? Do you know what it entails?

Because the anaconda handles differently than any other ship up until that point. FDL with its rear pilot view comes closest, but is lighter and much more nimble.
Even after upgrading to top thrusters - which is insanely expensive - the anaconda still drifts and is slow to react on your command.
Granted, lower speed will help immensely until you learn the different handling technique, which I learned the hard way myself (have crashed anacondas several times, ejecting me in the escape pod a couple times). But if you fly your Viper for a day and then jumps into the anaconda, the difference speed they handle well in is quite immense. At least this is my experience.

Just so you know.

If shortly after contact you started to deploy landing gear = its a known bug.
I once had the same issue..created a ticket and got my money back..
Currently only workaround is to delay landing gear until you are over landing pad in case you run into something..

omg, this is news to me.. and I always deploy my landing gear before entry to ensure I don't accidentally cough or sneeze in such a way that VA takes it for "boost"...

I am with you on this one. I prefer spending those extra seconds to decrease the chances of insurance payouts...

Genuine question here, because I've never flown a Conda. Are they more difficult to pilot than a Type 9 ?

Absolutely. It's more agile, faster, tougher, versatile, taller (hence the need to scrape the cabin off the top of the port sometimes) and more expensive.

It has less cargo space (10-20%) and it costs a lot more to buy, equip and pay insurance excess. Whilst I understand why some like the t9, I can't see myself going back to one just for an extra 50-150 cargo.

Wow a lot of people making judgements about my lack of flying skills. I am DANGEROUS in Combat and TYCOON in Trade. You don't get those ranks by being a poor pilot! I carry on Trading for a few more weeks then I will be ELITE and probably DEADLY in Combat so please forget the sarcastic comments about me being a poor pilot. Anyone is free to face me if they think I am a poor pilot!

This is a known bug but for reasons known only to Frontier the ticket system doesn't work? Or it takes too long to get an answer or people have decided because of this to just let it go and not bother. I have not blown my anaconda up since and I have not done anything different! I do have loads of cash left in Game and this means I carry the now 8.5M CR Insurance if the conda goes bang again!

Thank you all again for an interesting read.

Definitely a known bug. Does not only apply to Anacondas, can also happen in any ship, and you do not need to actually touch the side to provoke it according to your screen. Several of us noticed it during the recent Buckyball 7; Cause unknown and not related to landing gear.

IMHO, it looks like the game is registering the slot rotating with the station/not registering you as synched with that rotation and coming to the conclusion you have phased into the wall somehow and exploding you, or somehow believing you have missed the slot entirely when you have not, but that's my epileptic tree about it.

Why so much hate on the docking computer? I normally use it when I'm watching tv and trading.
Also, didn't know so many people misunderstood the usage of shield, pips, and SYS power.

The fanbois here will blame anything except the game itself. Even though FD, themselves, admit that there's a bug. Its ridiculous, I have never seen a group of people that are so stubbornly blind.

A slight scratch explodes your ship? Your fault for noob flying.
You completed your mission but the game didn't reward you or update it correctly? Your fault for accepting buggy missions.
Faction didn't rank you up even though you completed the mission? Your fault for not doing the mission correctly (even though it says mission complete)
There is none so blind as he who refuses to see.

Of course all of the things mentioned can be attributed to being dumb enough to buy an unfinished game from a company that keeps changing it's 'view for the game'.

Either get a new joystick or get a bigger shield..
Or a better game :)
