My wife (or Santa) got me a x52 pro for Xmas.
I didn't have a chance to play on the day, and Boxing day's been hectic. We had friends over this evening for drinks, and more drinks. I HAD plugged the system into my pc so it lit up the room it was in and when enquired I said it was my Christmas present and if pushed I told them it was for ED.
Most of our guests were about my age and about half of them remember Elite (I think there's at least one logging on right now to buy it) and wanted to have a look, I offered them the controls and he said demurely that he didn't want to look an idiot and crash my ship (very considerate).
Now here's the warning, the x52 pro has a damn sight more buttons than the FLY5, and thusly is configured completely different.
DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR X52 AND FLY OUT OF A STATION IF YOU'VE NEVER USED IT BEFORE, HAVE HAD A DRINK AND ARE TTRYING TO IMPRESS FRIENDS.
It is a marvellous bit of kit but I need to spend at least an hour configuring it so I know what the bleeding hell is going on and I'm not stabbing wildly at buttons just to get my view centered again let alone fly straight.
Luckily most of my friends were too busy caught up in the moment, watching the graphics, or remembering the original and were planning on how to raise the cash for a new game to realise what a spod I was being staring at the contacts panel while flying in circles.
I very much look forward to being able to spend some time lovingly caressing the throttle while assigning my keys.
Merry Christmas
