Yes-ish. Using the s/ware you can change what the Mode text displays. Other than that I don't think so. I use the modes to switch between Combat mode and FSS mode. With Combat or Analysis showing on the display. That's about it AFAIK.

Elites functionality with the X52 pro is quite disappointing to say the least. I wish the rotating switches on the throttle could be set to cycle through a targets modules or to cycle through targets. I would also like to have functionality for the buttons and switches below the throttle screen. Seems pointless that there are so many options available on the hardware and Frontier doesn't make use of them on one of the most popular controllers being used to play the game.

Um, they can. Not the MFD controls - they are dedicated to the screen/clock (you can set them up in the USB Game Controllers control panel) but everything else can be mapped...see https://github.com/X52EliteSetup and note that you have to add the FSS and a couple of newer controls, as mentioned above. I am super happy and copying the mapping over to my new controller later this month (my daughter is taking over the x52 pro).

As MrE said.
I have the wheel switches bound to the radar range. The wheel button to assist off in Mode 1 or FSS in Mode 2. I have the slider bound to assist off as well. That acts as a toggle. The rotaries are bound to Analysis stuff. I use everything except the thumb mouse.

Well colour me surprised!
I just checked and you can bind the LH scrolling switch on the throttle. The one that changes the clock mode. It can also be used with a modifier (Pinkie s/w). It is the only one I can find.

Just bought the x52 pro, after scouring endless forums, and a bit of thought process, i found you CAN use the mfd buttons, including the scrolls. What i ended up doing is installing a free joystick to key software called "AntiMicro" which actually manages to detect the MFD buttons and redirects them as keyboard keys! :D

Thanks for posting that. It looks like it could be handy. :D

Joystick Gremlin is another Joystick interface that allows you to map all buttons. I haven't used it on my X52, but it's good for my Virpil sticks that have many more buttons than ED can handle. It does the same as above - maps the buttons as a keystroke on the keyboard.

For the FSS and DSS, I use the mouse to control them. It's much quicker and easier than using joysticks: L & R buttons to zoom in and out, scroll wheel for tuning. scroll button to enter and leave FSS mode. Use the sensitivity setting in the keybindings to optimise the rate at which the mouse and tuning work.
