X52 not responding with rift installed

I just got an oculus rift, and I was looking forward to playing ED in VR. I have been playing elite for about two years with an x52 HOTAS setup, and it works perfectly while playing normally. The problem is that when I launch the game in VR, my x52 does not respond to any input. In fact, it does not respond in any form in any game with the rift plugged in. I have tried various USB ports for both the rift and HOTAS, but nothing is working. At this point I am starting to get a little desperate for help.

I don't have much to add other than my X52 works perfectly well with my Oculus Rift. Like you, I added my Oculus Rift after I had been playing with my X52 for a while. Make doubly sure that you have your X52 configuration selected when you are using your Oculus Rift.

I would check input settings under options in game.
Could have been swapped around.
Use the keyboard directly, the arrow buttons and usual menu navigation always work regardless of control settings.
Has happened to me a few times.
If you can't find your old bind in the drop down, try binding an axis and a button to check hardware works.
If not an easy fix I would activate dash in oculus, and setup a giant desktop view and then test the joystick there.

I too find an additional usb 3.0 expansion board very handy.

I had the same problem and it was a USB issue. Ports on the MB are linked in groups so if there is a big power draw on 1 bank then some peripherals wont work. Try as Flimley has said and you should get it working.

I just added an X52 Pro and I can't get the menus to work in VR because I have no mouse control, and can't use the keyboard in game due to the chat. Thoughts?

Bind your UI navigation buttons.

Ui up,down , left , right etc.
These bindings can be double mapped, or are contextual.

In other words they only do this function when a menu is open.
