Hardware & Technical X52 or X55 help please?

If I had to choose I'd go for Thrustmaster Warthog :p The price difference, if you compare it to X55 is almost insignificant (around £20 on Amazon.uk) and Warthog is of much better quality. There is one drawback though - no yaw...

Definitely a listing, comparison, or maths failure there as the two are not even close in price. The X55 is just over £100, the other is closer to £300.

Heck if the Thrustmaster was that close in price I'd even put up with its lack of yaw (which is the main reason I chose not to buy one originally).

And the winner is!!!..... X55 rhino by a landslide, I was leaning towards the x52 but after my personal debate it seams that the x55 will be the better choice even with the 40$ price diferance. The extra switches on the throttle pad will see good use. Thank you all for helping me to make a confident choice!! I'm gonna hurry up and order now so I can wait for it to come in!!

I'm afraid your wrong there, the warthog is almost double the price of an x-55 in some outlets

X-55 rrp: £170
Warthog rrp: £280

The inflated prices for the x-55 on Amazon are third party sellers trying to cash in on the fact they are out of stock everywhere.

If they really were £20 different everyone would have the warthog, but even then it has no yaw Control.

OK, I stand corrected. I've only just looked on Amazons listings to check the price and it was £235 for X55 while Warthog is currently priced at £257.

Regardless I'd still choose X52 Pro over X55, ergonomically it's far superior.

Why do you check amazon.co.uk only? I understand that you live in UK but it is also possible to check Amazon from other countries. Right now amazon.fr have them listed for 200EUR and amazon.de for 191EUR, whereas Warthog is about 330EUR and 309EUR correspondingly. In the mid-June amazon.fr has offered X55s for 149EUR. http://store.gameshark.net/ price is £169.99.

Amazon offers the products from the 3rd party e-tailers as well who are trying to make money on nothing. Sure you can find X55 for 300EUR if you are looking for the highest price. But this also relates to Warthog as there is an offer to buy it for £392.

You're right Aleksej, I should have. I know, I should have looked closer and should have noticed it was only 3rd party retailer, I know they tend to inflate prices when there is no stock.

However, before I buy anything I go on Amazon and get price reference to start with and then I do extensive price comparison. In this particular case I didn't do it, for many reasons at the time I wrote that post. Anyway, I'd expect a person to do their own price checks and not rely on someone else to do the job.

My X-55 arrived the other day, and it's fantastic, well worth the money imo. I had to set up a tiny deadzone (literally the tiniest blip) on the roll And pitch axis but other than that I am very impressed with the ergonomics and build quality.

I haven't used an x-52 so I can't make a comparison but based on looks alone the x-55 is a clear winner, has loads more buttons too.

My X55 just came in today!! Awesome I was expecting 1-3 months before delivery. That only took 2 weeks!!

Now I just need a computer

Congrats! Can you tell me if there is any stiffness or jumping when making subtle movements on the flight stick? Myself and others had problem with the bushing which holds the spring and moves up and down around the shaft upon movement, being too tight. Some were able to correct this with lube and some not. I'm just curious if it's an anomaly or of lots are shipping that way.

Thanks for the heads up on that issue, I will look out for that when I get my rig up and running. I'm purchasing MB & PSU today. I still need more hardware after that. I have a small walk in closet that I'm turning into a cockpit, custom made desk, LEDs, surround 5.1, acoustic sound dampened. I'm really geeking out with whole thing but I'm having fun. I live with 4 woman and the cats are even neutered. This space is MINE!!

Saitek HOTAS X55 Rhino

I started with the 3D Extreme, then picked up a Thrustmaster 16000m (built in throttle was horrid) this stick was much better. I ordered the X55 Rhino. I received the X55 yesterday. I spent most of that day/evening in settings making my settings make sense to me. The thing you need to make sure you do right off is calibrate everything using the windows controllers setup. I found the programming software a bit complex to deal with, so I just did everything within ED's Controller options. In my opinion the X55 is quite simply stellar. The whole unit is quite comfortable to use and feels very nice in my hands. This stick gives you a fantastic throttle unit, that adds immersion to the game itself. All that said, after doing quite a bit of research before ordering this unit, I would hook the stick and throttle into a powered USB Hub. The Sony PlayStation USB Hub works nicely and you can get it for a song. ($10.00 in US). The unit has built in green lights on the two-way self centering metal toggle switches and under all three hats on stick. The only complaint that I have is that the throttle increments on the Throttle Unit is not lit. This would not be an annoyance to most folks, but I enjoy playing in a dark room with "continuous" Throttle mode on in options. So when undocking I just need to make sure that the Throttle is centered. At any rate this is a fantastic unit and would wholly recommend it. God bless you all and happy flying. :)

Actually there is nothing difficult in H.U.D. and it is better to calibrate from there as it does not require any actions. You simply open the settings option, select the joystick, set curves as required and press the calibrate button, the rest is done by software. I really do not understand how is it more difficult then doing it from windows utility where you need to move the joystick around, twist it and press buttons to confirm each action.
