Hardware & Technical X52 Pro and profiles

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about the Saitek X52 Pro and profiles.
So Saitek provides an Elite Dangerous profile that I can edit and load in the X52 Pro.
But I can also select X52 in the Elite Dangerous controls and edit the bindings there.
Right? How are these related? And what is the difference?
What should I actually do to use the Saitek Elite profile?

well I've got an x52 and all i did was plug it in and start elite, got to the control settings then selected X-52....then modified it to suit my tastes.
haven't really played with the profile editor though so i hope someone else can help you

I'm think the difference is that you can change profiles on the fly with the right and thingy on the joystick...just stick with one of em i guess

The two are unrelated. The default bindings in the game client are stored in the game folders, while the Saitek profile is stored wherever it is stored.

The profile dial does exactly that. I arrived at a pure custom profile by unbinding all the X52 controls and starting from scratch in the game interface. I use the profile select switch to flip between supercruise, landing and combat profiles - it essentially allows you to have three sets of bindings active at any given time.

So how do you go about using the Saitek profile?
Do you set the Elite Dangerous controls to keyboard & mouse, and then load the Saitek profile into the X52?

So I hope someone could answer to see if I understand things correctly.
To use a Saitek profile you must set the controls in Elite Dangerous to mouse&keyboard and not change any bindings.
Then you can edit the Saitek profile and bind X52 buttons and things to keyboard or mouse actions.
Is that right?
