You can assign a button (the pinkie switch by default) to act as a clutch aka modifier - hold it down, and you can access a second function per button (think shift key on a keyboard)

And dont use the driver software that comes in the box. Download that and the SMART profiler from the Saitek website.
Different things, the pinky switch is normally used as a "shift" button. The clutch enables control functions like mode switching or just displaying what button you're pressing on the MFD.

Just got my X52 and was wondering about this also.. So how do i got about disabling this button as a clutch ?
Ive tried a few different things in the profile software, but im not getting any joy.

Open your "Game controllers" window and select the joystick then properties.
On the MFD screen there is a option to disable the clutch mode.
