Hardware & Technical X52 Replacement

I have the X52 Pro, but I'm totally fed up with the throttle buttons not working properly in ED. I play on two different PCs and different buttons work on each PC, so I'm always pressing the wrong one.

Is there a HOTAS setup that doesn't have these problems? I need one with the yaw on the main stick and a 4-way hat on the the throttle side for the thrusters, and I liked the scroll wheel on the throttle for moving tabs on the panels when it worked.

Is this problem unique to the X52, or does it happen with other ones?

I've seen a Chinese ripoff of the X52, which presumably has different software. I don't care if it breaks as long as it works properly when it works. Do you think it would be free from this problem?

How old is it? Might be worth returning if it's still under warranty.

I've got three sets, two work perfectly (the lightly used ones) but the main one has the same button failures as you. I just take it apart and fix it up, but you shouldn't have to.

Could you toss a link for the rip off? I bought a rip off optical mouse and it basically is exactly the same product, only with slightly funkily localized instructions. The other difference being the hugely reduced price. If I'm going to buy something with awful build quality (the x52 is just gaaaarbage) I may as well pay what it's actually worth. Mine has various issues, and I have treated it very well.

FYI...The Saitek X-55 has yaw on the stick. It also has two 4-way hats on the throttle thumb position. I setup the top one for thrusters and the bottom for for L/R next/prev ship and U/D next/prev hostile. The bottom also does the L/R panel views with the stick hat maneuvering through them with they are displayed. There are also three scrool wheels and two pots on the throttle if desired.

Thanks for that, but it worries me that it it has the same software issues with ED. I don't want to spend more money and still have the same problem.

There's nothing wrong with my X52. All the buttons work, but not with ED, so I can't send it back. I really like the layout. It's just so frustrating when your flight assist or battery cell button stops working and nothing will bring it back.

Here's a link to the Chinese one:

By software are you running a Saitek profile? I don't and each X-55 binding is setup directly in the ED Options Controllers. Thus less to worry about with any possible profile related issue.

One issue was programming a X-55 mode 2 (mode 1 is the ship) for the new SRV finding out later that some of the ship controls had changed or were missing. I think it was user error moving around the controller menu with the joystick high hat and inadvertantly moving L/R (which could change a binding) when searching using U/D scrolling. Now I use the mouse to get to a specific control input and then only use the X-55 to make the bind. No further problems.

There were some server related glitches and I sent in this ticket. FD wanted to know the bindings.

Buying Chinese...Sometimes it works out. Sometimes not. E.G. one can buy an OEM BG-E11 Battery Grip for a Canon EOS 5D Mk III on eBay for $190 or a Chinese version for $40. It will be lighter, less durable if dropped and won't match the texture of the camera. But it works. Another similar purchase resulted in a failure after 2 months of light use. On Ebay the Chinese version at £53.38 is about half the cost of the original. It's your decision to take the risk.

Hope all this info helps. Of course I could be making a problem more confusing per my limited experience! Best of luck! :)

Regards

I'm not running any profiles. By software, I mean drivers and whatever's in ED. There's a mismatch somewhere.

Can you explain what is going wrong by action and result?
i.e
Press button A - Nothing happens
Half press trigger - Nothing happens.
etc.

I have the pro and it's all working as it should be - you can turn off some of the built in functions in the windows driver setup y'know.. such as the "i" button - then you can assign it to what ever.
