Hardware & Technical X55 craps the bed once again.

Before it was a wire that got loose, at least that could be easily fixed with soldering. Now however, it's the rudder that is on the fritz. The slightest turn to the right registers as a maximum rotation. It's pretty annoying in a ship, but completely crazy in a srv. I took the stick apart once more but I have no idea how to fix this.

Anyone have experience in dealing with this?

Err... buy a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS...?

Sorry mate, I know this doesn't directly help, but I've had mine since 2014 and it's still going strong*.

e. * Ooh, that's not 100% true... some of the printing has been rubbed off some of the buttons... :D

...sorry...

Saitek QA is the most RNG thing Saitek users will ever see in Elite: Dangerous.

Anyway, does the twist use a pot, or a hall sensor? May need an actual replacement part.

You don't need to deal with Saitek to find parts for an X55.

Please tell us more :)

I've got a broken unit needing new castle hat switch and a few other button replacements. Saitek said they do not provide parts when I contacted them over a year ago, so would keen to know if there are 3rd party places to source this stuff from.

Cheers.

I don't know of any official third party source for compatible Saitek replacement parts, but there are so many used samples floating around that getting one for cheap that works where one needs it to work should not be exceptionally difficult.

Can second the recommendation of the T-Flight HOTAS. The only complaints I have with it is that the trigger is not very comfortable (I use secondary fire as my main trigger instead) and the cord connecting the joystick to the throttle is a little shorter then I like. Other than that it's a great HOTAS and absolutely unbeatable value at it's price (around $60 for mine). The throttle in particular is very ergonomic with lots of buttons and rocker switch for yaw control.

If the throttle still works you could buy something like a t16000m or extreme 3d pro. You would have a hotas still and won't have to deal with Saitek... I have had bad experiences with them as well...

I have a t16000 around somewhere, but damn I don't want to downgrade :(

Never buying anything Saitek again. Although Logitech did buy them, so maybe quality will improve.

I broke the twist/rudder control on my x55 the other night. Stick was flapping about like a kite in the wind. Couldn't find any info on how to fix it so bought an x56 instead. My girlfriend went nuts when she found out how much it was lol :D

this is my hope. The Hog is out for me as no twist yaw, but i am on my 2nd X55 now and the throttle issues are starting again (the fact that the wiring loom in the X56 throttle is the same as in the X55 blows my mind :(

such great sticks when they work. I look forward to investigating the X57 or what ever the 1st "logitech" stick is from them, but just do not know if my current X55 will last that long.

You may consider it a downgrade but, I can't help but mention the Thrustmaster t16000m FCS. The stick is highly regarded, but you have one already. I bought the stand alone Throttle, the TWCS, from Thrustmaster and mated it up with my existing stick, and I am liking it. For $80.00, when added with the T-16000M you already have, you could have at least a great backup HOTAS for when your Saitek stuff bites it. The TWCS has tons of buttons. I have a number I haven't even mapped yet.

If it doesn't break when you look at it funny, I'd call it an upgrade.

I recently bought a T16000m to use on my second PC and laptop. I liked the action so much I rejigged my control setup and stopped using my x52 Pro.

Bought on a whim because it has flick switches............FLICK SWITCHES!

Still going strong, 2yr garuntee.

like i said when it works it is a great stick (not much difference between the X55 and X56) the problem is .... google for images on X55 throttle wiring, and you will see the "obvious" design flaw. you wont have a problem with it till you do... which happens when the wires fatigue.

my 1st stick lasted 18 months - tho with hind site started crudding out after 12 months., My warranty replacement is about 12 months again and the same issues are starting (buttons on throttle not working when throttle in certain position).

the X56 has same wiring as the X55.

And that is even though she doen't even now the poor quality of the X56.
