Hardware & Technical XB1 Elite Controller - Combination Buttons to Paddles?

Searched but can't find an answer about this;

I've been playing ED for about 2 weeks and am having an incredible time with it. I am considering getting an XB1 Elite controller to use with this game.

Can anyone tell me if the 4 additional paddles on this controller can be mapped to combination button presses? For example my Target Next function is B+left D-pad. Can this combination be mapped to a single paddle?

Thanks!

You cannot map multiple button presses to a single paddle, to answer your question. However; I've been using the Elite controller to play Elite Dangerous and its made a huge difference in making me an Elite pilot. [big grin]

The way mappings work with an elite controller is that you can map the 4 paddles to any of the buttons/triggers on the controller. You then configure your button mappings to any of the options in elite dangerous.

For example; my Elite controller mappings are:

Top left paddle: LEFT Bumper
Top right paddle: Right Bumper
Bottom left paddle: A
Bottom right paddle: B

My elite dangerous mappings are:
LEFT Bumper and Right Bumper: Throttle; incremental
A: switch weapons
B: Boost
A + RBumper: FA Off
A + LBumper: target closest hostile ; used to be chaff before but changed chaff to firegroup
B + LBUMPER: target previous hostile; used to be use shield cell bank
B + RBUMPER: target next hostile; used to be use heatsink
LBUMPER + RBumper: Reverese thrust

I have the T.Flight Hotas One and I'm considering switching to the Elite controller. The Hotas is really nice, but I miss the simplicity of sitting with a controller in my lap. I would have to figure out how to set up the controller to not use "alternate flight controls" though, because I could not go back to toggling between lateral thrusters and yaw. That just sucks.

What platform do you play on OP?

I'm on XB1!

Thanks for the replies. Thats too bad that the mapping for paddles isn't more flexible. I also found threads about not being able to map chatpad keys to game functions. Quite a bummer on both counts.

To be fair this is the only time I can think of in my console playing history that I've wanted more key functions. :p

I was asking as if you were on PC, I believe there are apps that let you get around the limitations of the pad.

On Xbox though, yeah. You can't map combos.

I don't actually use my XBOne Elite with ED, but I did play around with reWASD a while back & that allows full customisation mapping for paddles independent of the top buttons, plus a lot of fancier things like double presses, long holds, combos etc. Seems to work well on testing out but the auto-profile switching side wasnt quite up to scratch (was looking to use it outside of gaming on a media center with a lot of app switching).

There is also Controller Companion which is pretty basic from customisation standpoint but I believe adds Chatpad support for PC.
