Xbox ceases xbx one game development

Wouldn't have thought it make any difference. The work to create a series S/ series X version still remains the same.

The potential issue of performance on the series S probably remains a talking point as well.

It's totally up to the FDev board, the same board that pulled workers off all console development not just ED after they had a failure of a big fanfare launch of Odyssey that hurt the share price.

The developers themselves don't have any say in the matter.

With the anocement that Microsoft will no longer be developing games for the last generation console, will next generation dev of Oddesy start up again?

So... Microsoft is no longer developing games for lastgens.
Microsoft.
What's that got to do with FDev or any other game dev?
Rhetoric question cause FDev stated they dropped Consoles as a game platform for ED v4.0 (aka live version) - sure there is a possibility that might change, but a meteorite wiping out our civilization is also a possibility.

Basically this 👇
Plus, that would only mean that Microsoft itself has ceased producing first party games, it does not mean that third party developers have to.

This is the root of what's wrong with the gaming industry today. That game isn't released yet in any form, yet people are talking about how great it is.
You're right, I got carried away a bit, I should've used a bit more nuance there.
More like.....

As far as I can tell by what we've seen so far it looks like Starfield could be delivering a much more complete package then ED ever did.
We'll have to see and wait how it actually turns out in September though.

I'm really looking forward to Starfield and am hoping for the best, you're right though, it's not like we've never been disappointed before.

Perhaps MS will make it more easy in the new Xbox to have games run on PC and Xbox with out much needed (additional) coding.

That would open up a possible route for gaming companies adding xbox support with a low investment. What might be a thing is that xbox does not offer enough buttons for $game

I keep seeing people talk about Starfield as some kind of replacement for Elite, but everything I hear about it tells me that, apart from being set in space, it scratches a different kind of itch. A single player narrative-driven experience set in a completely hand-crafted game world with a cast of developed characters. Regardless of how good it turns out to be, it sounds to me more like Mass Effect than Elite Dangerous. Both are great IMO, but they provide quite different kinds of gaming experiences.

Fully agree. ED is a one of a kind game, but it is dying due to poor management decisions that not only affect the game, but the company as a whole. Starfield will appeal to a lot of SC players alpha testers. It looks almost as good, has equally if not more to do and is vastly bigger. But it's also only got select areas on a planet to explore and no multiplayer at all. Starfield is also no NMS style survival game. Starfield is a Bethesda game, which means Skyrim in space.

I agree with you that ED is a different game then Starfield in many aspects but for me it's about the "space experience" that both games deliver.
The things I hoped for in ED seem to be realized in Starfield like ship management (building) and active npc crews on board, outpost building and decent on foot exploration and meaningfully combat.
I rather have a thousand planets with content and/or meaning then 400billion solar systems that are generally the same.
I never cared that much about the multi-player in ED besides from occasionally flying together with the people of DRX, I predominantly play single player games.

When Frontier decided to toss the console players out the window I started looking for an alternative, I clocked over 4000 hours in ED, and hope to find my new space game in Starfield.
No man's sky is good, really good, but it just doesn't give me that real space experience as ED did and Starfield will hopefully do.

Weird that you talk about the "space experience" then you go on about ship management/building, active npc crews, outpost building and on-foot exploration and combat
Not much about space experience in that regard imo - i'll wait and see how well the Starfield ships are flying and how meaningful is the space flight.
Else, it's just Mass Effect on bigger maps or Skyrim in a Sci-Fi environment

It's proc gen pretty much similar to ED for the bulk of places. It's open world RPG game a la Bethesda and nothing like a sspace game. It does have some space combat though. Basically it's how to do legs gameplay. You design the game around legs from the start.

How do you know that, did you play the game already?
Maybe you saw a different showcase then I did and are able to make a much better prediction of how the game will turn out to be.

With space experience I meant space ships, other worlds in space and building outposts on moons in space, weird that you couldn't see that.
