Newcomer / Intro XBOX controller on PC with Steam.

Hi,
I've had to move from XBOX to PC and have struggled a bit. Over the years I've played many flight sims perfectly well with keyboard and mouse but because I've played ED with a controller, I can't switch for some reason. That aside, I've got the controller working pretty well but have an odd issue where the left stick down press seems to go to the desktop and a (steam?) keyboard? I think, as far as I can tell, this should just alternate the controls so I can thrust left/right etc instead. I hope that is enough info to explain what is going on. Can anyone tell me what key setting I seem to have overlooked at all please?

I also seem to get my view focused on the top left chat window sometimes too, without doing it on purpose. I'm not sure on the details of that yet though.

The main aim is to get it identical to the XBOX controls.

thanks

No Xbox-to-PC players active here at the moment it seems. I'm a PC-only player myself so can't help you. Maybe someone at the Xbox forum can help?
Thank you for replying. I've spent some time going round in circles and it looks like the issue is some kind of steam keyboard. It takes over some of the keys. I've wiped its config (which was a little frustrating) and it has mostly fixed. thanks

Isn't there an issue with Steam's "Big Picture" mode messing with controllers? I remember having to make sure it was disabled but this was some time ago.

Yes I think that is it. It means pressing (for me at least) the left stuck down takes me to the desktop and opens a bloomin keyboard…. I had to remove all mappings manually. It still does it, but now only on the first press and then it is all fine. Much fun was had…
Thank you

That's Steams virtual controller at work. Right click on the ED entry in your Steam library > Properties > Controller, then set the override to "Disable Steam Input". That will allow ED to see your controller directly.

Thank you. Yes so it seems. Sadly disable doesn't actually do that (or at least for me anyway). I had to un map each button manually.
It is working mostly though now which is good. It's a shame I can't seem to learn keyboard and mouse. Getting too old...

The elite mark 2 xbox controlller will connect to pc, also wirelessly. I use it sometimes. I have a problem setting box comfortable bi ds. I have been through edref but i cannot find any usable binds. I have problems with the colour button shift key ..simpler and a Targus is somthing i starting to try.

Sorry I don't competely follow the question but I've found at least in Steam you have to remove all of the mappings. My controller also had to be phyisclly connected unless you have the MS wireless dongle. Following that the default controller mappings in ED worked (apart from one small niggle but I can cope with it).
The drop to desktop etc was all the Steam 'big picture' or similar stuff.
thanks
