Hello everyone. I have been playing this since the preview on xbox one (not as long as everyone else I know) but I remember when this was announced and they were talking about cross buy. Was Elite Dangerous ever enabled for cross buy? I would love to start playing it on my PC when the wife is using the xbox. If not I will just fork the money over to play on PC, also would my ships carry over to the PC version because I know they have cross play enabled. Anyways loving the game loving the changes cant wait for Horizons on the XBONE. have a great day everyone.

I don't know what you mean by cross buy. Nothing is stopping you from buying a copy of Elite: Dangerous for PC. If you mean buy once and get a license for all platforms, then no. If you have already gotten ED for Xbox and want to get ED for PC, you'll need to buy it. And no your CMDR data does NOT carry over. If you buy it for PC and play there you will start out with a fresh CMDR in a Sidewinder in Eravate. (At least I think it's Eravate. Been a LONG time since I've gone near the starter area.)

Yep, unfortunately the saves cannot be transferred between Xbox and PC, FD are aware that people would like this and have indicated it may be something they look at, but I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

So if you've been playing on Xbox and want to start playing on PC;
  1. You have to buy it on PC, either ED or Horizons.
  2. You will be starting a new CMDR on PC
If you switch back and forth, you will basically have two different CMDR's that aren't linked.

this is why I ask.

Elite: Dangerous’ Xbox One release marks the beginning of Microsoft’s cross-buy program. Anyone who buys Elite: Dangerous for either Xbox One or Windows 10 will have access to the game on all applicable Microsoft platforms, free of charge. That’s good news for gamers who want to play Elite on their Xbox One, but are interested in trying the game’s lauded Oculus Rift integration as well.

Hmmm... interesting. I don't know what to say to that except that the current facts are that the games need to be purchased individually if you want both platforms. I also don't know how 'official' that article is. I'd trust anything from FDev themselves before an independent gaming site.

Isn't this just referring to the feature in Windows 10 that allows you to play games on your xbox one remotely (streaming across your local network)? Although in this scenario your PC is the gaming interface you would technically still be playing it on your xbox and playing the xbox one version of the game.

MS backed off from the idea a while ago. Last I heard it only applies to micro transactions, DLC etc and not the game itself. Whether or not ED is included in the programme at all, I don't know.

Update: An Earlier Version Of This Story Claimed That Elite: Dangerous Would Be Part Of A Cross-Buy Program With The Xbox One And PC Version, But Frontier Developments Says That Was Never The Case. Apologies For Any Confusion.
