Xbox One Chatpad Key Mapping and voice commands

So I have an Xbox one Chatpad and I would like to key map commands to it. This is possible in PC but when I open up controls there are hardly any mapping options and the game doesn't seem to recognize the chatpad at all (besides typing in chat). Am I doing something wrong? And can we PLEASE bring ALL commands (like PC) so I can key map them to my chat pad. Commands such as docking permission, landing gear, silent running, target power plant, cargo scoop etc....

Also, with the Kinect, why is voice commands not enabled? I would assume (since Kinect has been out for quite a while), that voice commands would be one of the first things done with xbox. Did FD forget that xbox has the Kinect? lol.

Not every xbox has kinect, and it uses up system resources that they could (already?) be using for something else.
Similar with chatpad.

Doing what you suggest though could also be giving an ingame advantage to some PvPers (pay to win?).

I could understand that if it wasn't for the multitude of options on PC, including copilot, flight sticks etc, agreed it shouldn't be a game changer but a little Customisation would be nice

I think this is more down to MS than it is FD. The Xbox is a closed system compared to PC with which you can mod away till your hearts content. Whereas with Xbox it is important that its player base all get to play on a level playing field. That said I don't think that many players would complain if we could have keyboard options, its not like a usb keyboard is an expensive piece of kit.

Right. Or have it that if you have a chatpad that the game recognizes it and full key mapping is enabled. It's like other games I have. Some have kinect voice capabilities but you don't need to use them. Take Skyrim for example. You can verbally say the "shouts" and then that is replicated in the game. However, you can also access these "shouts" via the game controller. IMHO key mapping for Xbox and voice commands, for ED, should be available. It's just up to the user if he or she wants to enable them buy purchasing xbox accessories such as the chatpad or kinect (like other games I have played).

Either way you look at it. If key mapping is made available for xbox (same as PC) it's not going to change the game for someone who doesn't want to use it. You're still going to be able to play the game the same as someone who has key mapping enabled. It's a no brainer really.

I want to hear from a Frontier rep about this and see if this has been discussed before. I have the keypad, I want key mapping. These "special" features should not be limited to PC only.

I think it's a great idea that FD should develop and if MS did ever push back on the feature FD should just throw down "System Parity"

MS will do anything and everything to insure system parity on XB1. You just have to play that card.

FD can't hide behind the MS coattails on this this one. If they want to do it, they can.

Unfair advantage seems kinda weak.

Big screen tvs, elite controllers, steering wheels, etc... etc... Having kinect work is a function available on lots of games; why would this one be different?

Exactly! Seems like FD is purposely blowing us Xbox players off.

Still waiting for an FD rep to chime in....

Yes it may be a weak argument against it but it's one possibility (not having to flick thru menus in battle could make a big difference). As I rarely PvP, not even touched cqc, it doesn't bother me either way to be honest.

I would however prefer they devote their time and efforts to features everyone can use, rather than the 'nice to have' options that may only get partial use.

I had a Kinect on the 360 and it was a colossal waste, so I perfectly understand if they just don't want to add in support for it.

Ehh

It's more of a parity issue for me. If they support something on one platform it should be supported equally on all platforms.

I do agree that they should focus on features everyone should use. I would rather they do that.

But your argument could be turned around by saying "not all PC users have a mic, so why design for it?"

PS: I LOVE my Kinect. I want more use from it and I don't want it gimped because some people cheaped out and didn't get one.

How many Xbox One games make any use of Kinect now?

Sure, some launch games used it for voice commands or making your character lean left or right, but how many post-launch games use it?

Kinect's fate was sealed as soon as MS started selling the console without it back in June 2014.

No more Kinect bundled with every console meant even less reason for devs to waste time and resources adding Kinect support to their games. Why support something that isn't in every Xbox One owner's home?

Couple that with MS also giving devs the option to claw back system resources that were previously held back for Kinect whether it was used or not, and you have even less of a reason for anyone to support it. Why support something that isn't in every Xbox One owner's home, *and* which will also steal away 10% of the GPU if you want to use its depth or IR sensors?

No, but I think MS did ;)

This is something that I think both MS and FD are making a mistake on. Tons on pc players use voice attack and this is finally a feature in game that the Kinect is actually well suited for but FD already stated that they will not use it. To me it seems like something they would actually be eager to support so I think you are right.

After the Kinect games FD made in the past, perhaps they are taking a break from the tech. MS seems to have forgotten it exists.

I just realised that the xbox has a free microphone anyway with every box, so no need to waste that 10% resource running kinect just for voice (if they want to spend time patching it in anyway, and ruin voice chat for those that use it of course ;-) )

Not getting Kinect had nothing to do with "cheaping out" as you put I just did not want one. If however I see a reason to get one I will. Right now though I see even less reason to invest in one.

Exactly I use voice commands with cortana on my crappy laptop mic and that works well. Dont need kinect for voice commands any old mic will do!
