Xbox One controller working in menus but not flight

Hi,

I'm new to the game and struggling to set up controls properly. I would prefer to play using an Xbox 1 controller (via bluetooth) but I'm running into a problem where I can use the controller to navigate the menus but not perform any actions in game. I've made sure that all the control bind profiles are set to default gamepad which is set up for Xbox if what I've read it correct. Does anyone have suggestions as I haven't found any fixes searching online.

(via bluetooth)
That is likely the issue. There were (and still are) several people who report that Gamepads (in general) ind XBox controllers especially don't play well via BT with ED. It usually works in other games, but not in ED. The usual solutions are:
  • use a cable
  • use the (an?) original MS wireless controller adapter

My suspicion (and it's only a suspicion) here is that the BT connection of the XBox controller(s) isn't exactly stable, depending also on the BT hardware and stack in your PC - "ordinary" games which have a fixed (or, at the most, a few switchable) gamepad layout and otherwise just permit you to use kb+m have no problem with reconnecting to the controller basically any time you press a button. ED with its flexible/complicated (depends on your POV) controller binding gets in a huff if one connected controller drops out and requires you to restart with all controllers that you have specified in your binding being present.

ya ive always used a usb cabled one...............
this game has almost always had a problem with blu tooth & thrown it's toys out of the pram
i rem hearing of a user who some how tricked his into working by pluggin in a wired one then pluggin the BT back in dunno how that worked
most have to use one of those dongel adapter wosamajigs from what i can recall

I appreciate the responses. I tried plugging it in and got the same result but it is also a bit on the older side, pre usb c change so that could be a point of failure. I'll check out the alternatives and see if I can pick up a wireless adapter.

you tried plugging it in?
does that mean you used a cable selected the custom preset and if so did you try and rebind a stick to an axsis input like pitch up for eg?

So I think you might have helped find a weird solution. If I go into controls and bind an action to exactly the same action it is listed as being bound to (for example if throttle is listed as bound right bumper and I rebind it to right bumper) it works. I don't love the idea of having to go in an rebind all of the inputs but whatever works.

odd sounds like you have two bind files in play anyhoo
just follow this guide and you should be good
