I dislike Star Trek. It has no edge and does nothing for me.

Not that there's anything wrong with disliking Star Trek, or that you need to like it, but have you ever watched much Deep Space 9?

It's far less of the traditional "edgeless" Star Trek (a critique I'd agree with), and a lot more about the personal, political, and social ramifications of military occupations, insurgencies, terrorism, cultural imperialism, religion, war and a lot else.

I don't mention it to try to make you like Trek, just because if it's "edge" you're looking for, there's a lot of it there. (granted, for certain values of "edge")

First Contact a good movie??

No. Just no.
The entire TNG series of feature films was terribad.

For me, Trek basically ended after DS9. That was the last successful incarnation, different as it was from the established format.

DS9 had its moments....but was mostly terribad (is that a word even [where is it]). First Contact is probably the best TNG film, an' I'll poke you with a pointy stick 'till you agree [big grin]

Well, despite its flaws, I thought it lucked out in a lot of things going for it. It was an entertaining decent adventure story with great visuals and a good score by Jerry Goldsmith. What they did with the Cochrane character was admittedly insipid, but the other guest characters were fine and I thought it expanded on the TNG crew decently well. Even the Defiant from DS9 got a cameo, and the borg were creepy again. I'm not a big TNG fan, and prefer the TOS movies and series, but I'd agree FC is imo, the best and more memorable of the TNG movies.

Been watching some episodes of DS9 lately after many years and think it was probably the most edgy and had some of the darkest and most humorous episodes as well.
