I dislike Star Trek. It has no edge and does nothing for me.
Not that there's anything wrong with disliking Star Trek, or that you need to like it, but have you ever watched much Deep Space 9?
It's far less of the traditional "edgeless" Star Trek (a critique I'd agree with), and a lot more about the personal, political, and social ramifications of military occupations, insurgencies, terrorism, cultural imperialism, religion, war and a lot else.
I don't mention it to try to make you like Trek, just because if it's "edge" you're looking for, there's a lot of it there. (granted, for certain values of "edge")
