Yamiks leaked a bunch of datamined stuff...

I like Yamiks. He can be a bit grating but it's his style. It's worth listening to the contrarian point-of-view most of the time, even if you don't like it. I like Obsidian Ant, CMDR Plater, DTEA and Exigeous too. My kinda nerds.

Even CMDR Tony Curtis is entertaining, despite being a seal clubber. He knows how to put a vid together, at least... Despite the fact he only has 2 memes (K-pop girls, and The Joker saying "I'm glad you're dead" about 15 times per vid).

And Hello it's Kolo is fun to watch too, especially the vid where she ran out of fuel while live streaming and had to call the fuel rats. lol

This was the most interesting bit for me :)

No guarantee, as he says more broadly, but a modelled-out mining SRV is intriguing. And would fit with EDO's focuses I'd think.

The Titan Tharg hints were fun too, and some of the experimental bits and pieces.

Mining fighter, complete with an image and some more data. - Its a pre Horizons art concept drawing showing the SRV cockpit, thats all. But hey, keep dreaming.

Although, the situation might be a chicken or egg scenario. Did the forums hate him first, or did he hate the forums first? I certainly don't know.

I stopped watching a lot of negative childish or just plain insulting YouTubers before I read or posted on the forums. So for me it was definitely the stench of the poo that came first.

It's good that they are addressing the base game as part of the update. It wouldn't be very good if the on-foot gameplay is on a different level from the ship gameplay. it's all a part of one game.

Indeed its just typical pointless YT speculation.

Typical pointless forum speculation! ;)

There are degrees of intrigue in this kind of digging I think. As Yamiks pointed out, the Thargoid model unearthed previously was probably more intriguing. (And as a bonus it got a response from FDev. If only to confirm that it was old R&D). It demonstrated that FDev had interest in modelling 'Thargoids in the flesh' to some degree. Something the leak would concur with ;).

I think the modelled items are more interesting than the minor file references, on the whole. Because they suggest something that's at least got past the initial brainstorming stages. The mining SRV seems to fall into that category.

Just as the mission-giver video is more interesting than some stray reference to MissionGiver#42.

On balance, given all the various info sources in concert, it wouldn't be surprising if EDO ended up featuring 'Thargoids in the flesh'. Or an SRV variant. And we already know it'll have mission givers in the flesh & NPC audio.

It all seems like fun speculation to me ;)

I'm not convinced of the mining fighter really even being a thing. It could easily be a fans work and nothing to do with FDev. Think about it, what would you rather do, fit a class 2 mining laser or fit an entire fighter hanger taking up all that space just to get another class 2 mining laser on your rig?

There has always been loads of junk in the files- you had Panther Clipper references, cut content like dredgers, videos of voiced / 3d avatar briefings, 3 unused powers. Its interesting but at the same time useless.

Well yes and no- it was obviously a test but in the end its just that: a test. People need to view it as a scrunched up ball of paper with a scrawl on it, rather than what we might get. Saying that it will be interesting to see if it (the videos) were tests / render targets in comparison to what we get- we have confirmation of dialogue options so maybe FD felt a straight brief was too flat.

I never said we had a good relationship, lol. He probably doesn't even know who I am. All I'm trying to point out is, he has time and again looked down on these forums, and with some of these responses, I can understand why. You aren't exactly going to be friendly to a relatively hostile audience.

The Elite forums are hostile ? <Shocked Face!> Sometimes I'm surprised even ED moderators and Devs bother to venture here..

Yamicks has his own unique style of delivery, but then so does Obsidian Ant, Vindicator, and others. As long as I'm not getting "Willy Pics" I am willing to at least listen to what he has to say.

Yeah, I'm just arguing that stuff that's been taken to some level of modelling is a weightier tell of their direction of travel, compared to periodic file references alone etc (with no other sources correlating with them).

Even if that particular format of voiced NPC doesn't persist to EDO, and even if it had turned into a dead end, it still clearly represented a serious R&D endeavour / direction of travel etc.

Same goes for 'Thargoids in the flesh' for me. And (if it can be stood up a bit more) same goes for the apparent mining SRV.

I think casting it all as 'junk' brushes over some of those aspects is all ;)

Its certainly interesting for sure- but at the same time a lot of things could be dead ends. I really, really miss this:

Why FD left it out I don't know, they are very cagey about it.

They've re-purposed the deadly maw so that it flings our characters into a neighbouring galaxy...

(Files suggest we leave behind a trail of military grade fuel ;))

Atleast the "leakers" haven't taken the effort to unpack the game files and leak anything of real value. I'm sure some people have, but atleast they're keeping their lips sealed about what they found.
