Yaw VR Motion Simulator Chair

Looks uncomfortable and not very smooth in operation...

About 9 hours ago the creators of this device said, "yesterday we solved an issue with elite, there came out very rough angular speed data from the game, so we made a smooth on it and it was great."

I know I am seriously considering backing this Kickstarter. Not only for Elite Dangerous, but for flight simulation and driving simulation. Got my tax return coming soon and hoping it gets here before 24 Feb when the Kickstarter ends. I know it seems like a lot of money but every motion simulator I have looked at is a lot more expensive. And DYI projects would probably still cost you about as much as one of these and you would still have to actually build it and get it working. Plus this is the first one I have run across that has a full 360 degree yaw and will work with or without a PC. Fortunately with the whole cable issue of high end VR equipment you can limit the amount of yaw, that is until a fully spin capable device for all the cables can be found or created by someone.

They have already reached their initial goal and in their forums at https://www.yawvr.com/forum/yaw-vr-club it was questioned about making sure people will be able to get their products with less than 200 backers. The creators stated, "I agree that $900 is lots of money, even on Kickstarter this amount is not a usual pledge. So I know and feel that my responsibility is huge. For production we have two plans. We started to find Investors. If we can raise investor capital then we will prepare mass production mostly with vendors from China. (By the way guys if you have any investor around you please let them know about us!) If I will see there is no chance to find investors on time we will start the production immediately, in that case the standard parts (e.g. motors, wheels, bearings, leds etc.) will come from third party vendors, but the custom parts will be made here in Hungary. Our budget is based on this last scenario so we are safe even if we will not have any investor.

The prototype from structural point of view is close to final product (of course we have lots of feedbacks and ideas and experience about what and how we have to change) and since we produced the prototype already we have all the professional sources for almost all the parts but definitely for all the main parts.

So yes, I can promise we will deliver Yaw VR for all our backers.

Yep, seriously considering backing this!!!

Pretty cool. The demo looks a bit rough, but that seems to have been fixed in later iterations. I'd love a chair with some feedback, but I don't think I could give up flying with pedals.

I can't stand that guy. He's almost, but not quite as annoying as that Mark-whatever guy, just not quite as vulgar.

Nothing personal against either of them, I know it's just me, but that's ok, there's plenty of people who do.

I think it was the rampant Antisemitism for me. Until that he was harmless.

I don't actually care about that - it's far too easy to simply ignore. But I'm one of those old-school, thick-skinned folk who doesn't cry because someone said something mean.

I just go "And they're an @hole." and get on with my life.

I'm a millennial, so I'm offended over your implication that I'm thin-skinned! :p

Just so I can get my SJW points for the day, it's not that he said something mean. Using the racist language that he did, many times, has a deleterious effect. Especially considering the age of his audience.

How does this chair work with Elite? Does it get the movement data from the game itself? Is it something that's accessible from the Oculus drivers? Or does it just use the data from your stick movements?

The question I'm asking is that if you're shunted from the back, would the chair react to that event even though you hadn't touched your joystick?

ED offers no API for motion data; I don't know whether the data that XSimulator SimTools peeks into the game to extract is actual forces data, or just stick movement, but maybe somebody else does... CMDR Blastard?

With the Yaw device; Whatever one might say about its other qualities, I can't say I'm too keen on the idea of "sitting" as if some big bully had dropped me bottom first into a rubbish bin; Its neutral position is somewhat what I'd exect during quite heavy acceleration, and forwards (toward a more upright, albeit still foetal position), happens to be one direction that has the least articulation room. :7

Just a quick reminder that memory peeking is not accepted by FD, and the game doesn't export any flight data at all.

They are using SimTools to access the data.
