Yay! Now. we can make it to Hutton orbital in less than an hour*

why didn't they demonstrate it in the stream video?

It was disappointing that they didn't really demonstrate anything. It was all screenshots except for the hype trailer at the end, which didn't show us anything interesting. Still, I guess we'll find out lots more next week in the beta.

I don't think they ever said you could do jumps within systems. If you're jumping to a new system, you can select a specific planet to orbit (see the procedures in the recap discussion). But nowhere in the discussion did they ever say you can jump to a new planet within the system you're already in.
They can and they did say that

Yeah, it's not explicitly stated you can jump within the same system - I guess with all the talk of "or a body within that system" my mind tried to use logic (BIG mistake) and figured that meant you could jump within system.

Technically, you could jump to a very close system, and then BACK, to the body you wanted, but... you know, three hour jump time (one hour spool up, one hour cooldown, one hour spool up again) kinda makes that a bit annoying.

And you'll do what with 25kt of something once you get there? I can see loading up missions, but I can't really see how much time savings are possible, and then you have to resolve whether or not you can board during the warm-up cycle.

You can't easily switch ships if you have cargo/passengers onboard unless it's cargo when you can switch to a ship with a larger hold. And there's still a 20 mission cap?

Is there any evidence that the Carrier can trade directly with a station?

Sounds like a shuttle situation that could be a rather tedious and long process.

I'm still not convinced there's going to be a huge time savings and increases in cr/hr.

I really just want the ability to take my fleet with me when I move about. If that's reasonably affordable and convenient, I'll be happy.
If there was a reason to take 25kt of something to Hutton the most efficient way at the moment is to use a Python. It's also the best way to ferry it from your carrier too. With a completely cargo orientated ship (no shields just cargo racks) that's going to take around 85 trips.
Using the Python alone the standard Hutton trip is close to 90 minutes, let's call it 85 minutes (I forget the exact figure) that's around 120 hours supercruise in Alpha Centauri and a 5 minute turnaround time adds another 7 hours , So the total is around 127 hours. That is assuming that you can source all the goods within 1 jump.

With a carrier you could use a shieldless T9 to load up in 32 trips. Assuming 10 minute round trips that's less than 5.5 hours to load up. An hour to jump from pretty much anywhere in the surrounding 500 ly. Then assuming 10 minute turnaround ferry trips with your Python, just over 14 hours to unload.. If I generously round that up to 14.5 that takes the total to 21 hours which I think most people will agree is considerably quicker than 127 hours.

Of course there isn't any reason at the moment to do such a thing, but in the event of a CG or Operation Ida type of situation it makes sense and there would be the added bonus of having other players helping in the loading and unloading. With the right pricing everyone would make a profit, though it might not be the maximum profit for the FC owner the chances are that one trip like that would cover their weekly expenses

They can and they did say that
There is nothing in the recap to indicate that they changed their process on moving within a system. I'd be glad if they did make this change, but I don't see it anywhere in the recap, nor in the video.

It was said in stream ... unexplored system you carrier will jump to its main body ( sun) . If the system explored then you can go in system map and choice the exact body you want to jump.
though it’s still can be done in unexplored system after you completed the jump and scanned system for body’s ... after that you can do system internal jump to desired body, POI

i watched the stream this morning and they were clearly talking about this.

Now I'm excited

Can't wait

As long as you have 5BCr in the bank plus maintenance.

Why the hell isn't this mechanic available to everybody?

Why does everyone else have to stare at mind numbing space dust animations till your head hits the desk while trying to get to a systems second star?

And so help me don't tell me space is big.

*it may not take an hour, I dunno, I've always had better things to do.
Actually, it will take twice as long using the fleet carrier vs. just flying there.

Its an hour to charge for jump in, then and hour for the drive to cool down follows by a third hour to charge to jump out.

Vs. a 90 minute flight in followed by an almost instant jump out.

Difference is, in that time, you can actually be doing things other than just staring at the orange circle in super cruise.

Also, you don't need to jump out with the carrier, just set it to jump out, and leave yourself in a normal ship and carry on.

So it's just a normal hour charge up for the jump, really.

1400 hours in the game - 2.7 billion in assets with 400+ million in cash. If I grind 5 billion to buy a FC, I'll lose more than it will ever save for me.

I read that as if the system is unexplored you can only jump to the entry point, but if the system has been explored you can jump to anywhere on the system map, I didn't see anything to indicate they can micro jump within a system.
