Newcomer / Intro Yep, another newbie who can't control their ship...

put ROLL on A and D | put side thrust on Q and E ledt right | Put thrust R and F up down | swap mouse controlls to YAW |
every other button to your liking.
I will reccomend putting Flight Assist off on SPACEBAR(i use it a lot)

Well, I got a T.Flight HOTAS X, and it made all the difference in the galaxy. Once I plugged it in, I had no problem controlling the ship. I also needed to remember to think like a pilot...not an admiral. I've run into a few other issues and some things in the game seem outright broken (looking at YOU, camera controls), but that's a topic for another thread.

I recommend a HOTAS but KB/M is entirely viable

Get HOTAS, thank us later...

There have been long threads and yootoob videos on the camera controls most of which should still be findable in the forums and elsewhere and some should still be relevant.

The reason that roll is espoused is due to the relative rates of movement. It is much quicker to turn to a new heading by using roll and pitch than by using yaw alone.

The ships in Elite have specifically been set this way to avoid them being used effectively as turrets. (I am sure you know this since you have been around a while. ;) )
Anyone who says that you should have roll on your mouse X axis should be taken aout back and shot.
