Yet Another Ranking Thread - A Request To Collate Information On Ranking After 1.5 Update

Data from today:

Faction: Empire
Rank: Earl
% before mission: 80% (freshly achieved after doing a bunch of various missions with the last one taking me from 79% to 80%)
Mission Type: donate money (x4) & donate food (x1)
Effect on reputation: High
% after mission: 81%
Notes: Got a fresh start at 80%, progress bar changed to 81% only after completing the 5th high-rep mission, blue up arrow on Empire rep all the time (stuck on 98% Allied the last few days).

After that I did one delivery mission (low), one courier (medium) and two charity (high), still at 81%. Looks like high rep money/food donation missions give 0,2% of progress each at Earl rank. Too scared to check how much percentage increase the low rep delivery mission give now, perhaps 0,1% or maybe even less?

Rep is irrelevant, and a red herring with respect to rank gains. Once you are allied with any given faction, you will get the maximum number of missions, that is where rep has any relevance.

Each unique type of mission (charity, or otherwise) gives a fixed amount to rank gain "points", regardless what the rep or "value/quantity" is (killing 5 pirates in one mission will get you the same rank gain as 50!). See my prior posts to get an idea of which ones are worth doing.

I did a about a 12-hour stretch on and off to go from Lt. Commander to Vice Admiral, and I carefully wrote down each percentage gain per mission, but after a while the pattern appears, and from Post Captain on, I just knew which missions to look/hope for. (hope mostly since you take all the charity missions that are offered!)

Follow on from above -
Started day at Tamar ranked as Master 28%. Only had 3 Donate missions, gained 2-5% for each of these.
Missions to go get various commodities (ie 'go find 10 clothing and bring them back here' sort of thing) and missions to transport commodities to other stations, made 1% a time. (7 missions).
'Deliver classified data, don't get scanned or you fail' missions were by far the best earner, 7 missions gaining 16, 6, 8, 10, 3, 5 and 9% (in order).

That took me to 'Squire' 17% after the accession assassination mission, an immediate donation of 12267 Cr gained 2% which is where I stopped for the day.

Empire rep, during all this, went steadily up from a starting point of -15 to a finish on -7.

Edit: Totally posted in the wrong thread.... GOOD LUCK RANKING EVERYONE HAPPY NEW YEAR lol

Noone seems to be noting their charity payment amounts?!

As Warrant Officer I have noticed missions where you are giving 5,000c = 1%, 10,000c = 2%, 24,000c = 3-4%

Can anyone else confirm the previous comments about multipart missions giving massive rank?

Well, I did for one =
At Tamar (Empire) as an outsider 86% donating earned me 12%, by the time I reached MASTER donating 3k earned 1%, 12423 Credits donation jumped from 28 to 32%, donating 10735 Cr at 93% earned 3%.

Working as Post Commander towards Post Captain.

I am seeing about 1% per 3 standard missions (including charity of any amount cr).

Missions that give noticeably more are assassination missions, and missions to destroy stuff at planetary outposts (such as destroy generator attached mission). I am not sure of any dependency on the size/security of the target outpost. These mission types may be giving 1% on their own.

It is hard to tell since it takes a few missions to see a % change.

Having reached my target of Baron (so I could buy the Clipper) on Saturday, this is how it went...

The most consistently high scoring missions were the 'deliver classified data' ones, which involved taking data from A to B within a relatively short period of time (long enough, but measured in minutes). You would have to avoid scans, getting scanned failed the mission, but as most were to deliver to outposts arrivals weren't usually scanned anyway. (Stations and Military outposts DID scan, so high speed stealth delivery for them).
I tried the odd classified data delivery that involved delivering to an NPC in a target system - these seem pretty broken to me, I'd hang around the target system - often unable to find the guy - and I'd get a mission update to go back to where I collected the data, then I'd be unable to hand it back in. I completed one of these at some point, but it didn't score well and took far longer and was confusing as hell

Missions to kill NPCs usually involved the target flying an Anaconda in a 2 or 3 man wing.

Anything involving a rendezvous make sure you have a frame shift wake scanner!

From Master through Baron the best missions were classified data delivery, second best were the rapid delivery ones (mission symbol a cargo canister with an arrow) - straightforward courier and 'go fetch commodity X and deliver it' missions often produced only a fractional increase in rank - by knight it took 2-3 of these to climb 1%, doing the Lord ranking I found it took anything up to 4 or 5 missions to gain 1% doing simple deliveries.

The charity missions (donate x credits) were always a good earner for rank, even small donations returned a couple of percent. sometimes 5 or 6.

There seemed to be a tendency to get low scoring missions on the bulletin boards until at 50-60% in the rank, then suddenly there'd be more of the higher scoring ones appearing - don't know if this was really the case on purpose, but my record consistently showed that from 20-50% in each rank took a lot more of a grind than the last 20-30% or so.
