Whaaaat?! This is the best Christmas present ever! Shut up, I'm not crying, you're crying.
Forgive my ignorance, but does this automatically log our journeys as we play? If so, how does it do that?

Allow me to clarify that last question - does my PS4 send data to EDSM, or is EDSM getting that data directly from Frontier's servers? If the former, does that mean more bandwidth consumption for me?

We have been talking about this on PSChat for most of the evening. (We are still working out the boundaries)
In order to upload data, you must hast the edsm webpage open, with the uploaded working.
You can’t run it offline and then sync up periodically.
Every 60s, it’ll take a refresh and can send data to EDDN when docked.
It’ll track your star system journey(s) but won’t upload inventory or materials.
Not perfect, but a lot better than anything the PS4 commanders have had before.
To your question OldDuck, yes it will mean more bandwidth but I guess it will be negligible.
Just need to automate the link so that it works in the background and it would be perfect for DW2.

GREAT !!! I haven't played ED for a while (several months I guess) but THIS IS a real reason why I'll come back ... sooner or later ... but for sure. I really missed this feature. I'll have to find my ASPX first .. as far as I can remember it's lost (aka parked) somewhere above Sag1

Correct me, but this is only data that is linked now accounts are linked, not data we’ve collected in the past?
For example, my previous explorations and adventures won’t be logged, but any new ones will be?

Son of a monkey's uncle. I literally just did a 30,000+ light year trip and this comes up? Timing man!
From what I understand from a tweet with EDSM, they are getting the data itself from Frontier. Does this mean the website is basically an authentication mechanism? If so, then I assume both the website and PS4 has to share the same public IP address, correct? In other words, you can't have the website open on a cell phone while the PS4 is on a "landline" connection, if I am guessing correctly.

I'm pretty sure EDSM works the same way Destiny Item Manager works with Destiny 2. It just pulls your data from game in real time from the game's servers.
I think I'm more excited about this than the new chapter. I've become a Patreon and would urge anyone else who values this to do so to. You can make a one off donation or regularly donate from as little as $1 a month.

Just did a little test trip to California nebula and back. Systems I stayed in for less than a minute weren't tracked, which is no surprise I guess, just something to be aware of.
So am I understanding this correctly ?

We have to submit our frontier account details for it to work, but how secure from hackers will those details be ? Would it be possible for someone to steal account's or reset huge quantities account saves ?

I take it that's the same with the engineers tab telling me they are all locked?
