You kids don't know how easy you have it...

old skool

I used to have to open the top of my floppy drive and jiggle the little plastic tab on the read/write head to get the game to load back in my day! (my c64 floppy drive was very overworked and beat up!)

I used to have to get the precision screwdriver out to align the azimuth on my cassette player head to get the Acorn Electron version to load :D

When I was a lad delivery mission used to pay about a 1000 credits, the road to getting a well equipped Cobra was a long slog, spoilt I tell you, spoilt!!!

:p

10 days in that Hauler before i bought the Cobra. I've realised fast that she was way too expensive for me so i sold her and got an E-rated Type-6. I was flying in him for 3 weeks and equipped him before i could effort a C-rated Cobra than. It has taken another week in the Type-6 to A-grade her. It was a pleasure!
My dreams became true when i was able to buy a Python several months later xD

Now on my second cmdr it has taken me 10 hrs and i had an A-rated Python. So i don't understand the complaints about money....

Same here, it took over 5 mins to load on a ZX Spectrum, and even then sometimes it didn't work and had to be loaded again.
Killing a pirate payed 100Cr. Even killing a Thargoid battleship only payed the same amount. But the military lasers were fantastic. Just 6 or 8 hits to blow up a sidewinder. Kaboom!! And the cloaking device, that could be obtained during one of the 3 missions one could have, was a nifty device. Making one invisible for about 30 seconds at the cost of a lot of energy. But it could be used to escape or get an advantageous position for attack.

We thought we were lucky if we were allowed to sleep in a black hole.

Luxury.

There was 46 of us trying to sleep in a 1 man escape pod and we had to drift in a neutron stars arm rocking all over the place. Each time somebody rolled over we prayed that it didn't drop us out of supercruise into a fiery death...

And you try to tell that to the pilots of today...and they won't believe you :)

In the old days we would have to push our ships out of the air lock. Breakfast was the most important meal of the day.

Back in the day we didn't find missions - they found us. To make money until somebody found us interesting enough for special missions, we filled our tiny cargo holds and travelled far to sell our goods, and we were happy if we made 500 credits off a 10-ton sale. Once we could afford a weapon upgrade we occasionally dared to hunt down some lone pirates, which usually had friends popping out of nowhere.

We only had a few upgrades to speak of, and none of the fancy cruisers the kids save their allowance for these days. Our drives were so unreliable they could occasionally misfire and send us 50000 lightyears away from our intended destination, and none of the systems for the next 200ly were populated, so fuel scoops were mandatory.

You kids have it so easy nowadays.

And if your dad wanted to watch something on TV you had to abandon your game with no chance to get to a space station to save.....

I thought that the credit gain may have been ramped up a bit. Played ED on PC a little at launch and never got much further than an Eagle. Within 2 hours on PS4 I had a MkIII Cobra with decent equipment. Definitely helps the sense of progression!
