You Lied.

Welp.
I can't find the post.

But.
You got me.
You lied.
I believed you.
I spent four sessions of multiple hours chasing it.
aaaand it was a lie.

Like they say in the big city: "If it sounds too good to be true, it is."

Well, it was kind of a cheesy exploit anyways.

So hat's off to you.

NO - I did no go to Hutton Orbital for a free Anaconda.
No.

I did, however rig a ship with AFMU and Toxic Cargo rack and go and get a Thargoid Sensor and travel all over the shop.
And I did go to an active Thargoid site.
And open the door with the Thargoid Sensor.
And I did (to my shame) kill about oh say uh let's call it an even hunned (100) Thargoid Scavengers.

So I HAVE maxed out the mats you can get from Scavengers. Harmless little things that they are.

But I have not moved my combat rank a single percent towards Elite.

So either Frontier thought that giving Scavengers Elite rank as a target was actually cheesy.

OR

I was sucked in, chewed up, spat out, stepped on, scraped off.

Well done whoever posted that as an exploit.

Well I'm glad it wasn't me. lol. 😌 The three most effective combat rank grinding activities according to my observations (and I have been observing recently, having hit my combat elite in the CZs last week /takesabow ) would be 1) Thargoid Scouts, 2) High CZs and 3) Compromised Nav Beacons. I know you know that, I'm just posting it for the thread.

P.S. I'm pleased to say that there is still no exploit for combat rank. One cannot obtain Elite ranking without killing literally thousands of NPCs and it therefore does still count for something. Long may it stay that way FD.

Cobra with 2 medium gauss would do the job nicely if you're up to the aiming task. 3 volleys, poof. Gotta do it fairly quickly though and distance is the key (use that microgimball), but not too much cos they have falloff, 2km is ideal. Not many ships can do it faster due to the limitation of 4 guardian weapons and the extreme heat generation of the gauss. 3 Gauss in the Krait is very very effective, 2 volleys if you do it right.

I never really made it a goal to increase PF ranks, but as a combat oriented player, my CMDR hit Elite in combat first.

Later, when ranking up NPC crew I mixed their training into BGS work by fighting in wars for factions I wanted to support. Give even a harmless NPC control of my PvP corvette and they will rank up extremely quickly...I'm good enough in the SLF to manage hostile focus and not get shot down very often.

Or, if you don't want the hassle of manual aiming while in a Krait Mk II, go for 3x turreted AX class 3 multicannons topside, with 2x gimballed class 2 medium lasers. Shreds scouts very well indeed.

Personally, I reckon one of the most efficient ways to grind combat-rank is by bursting Orcas and Belugas at a Tourist Beacon in an Anarchy.

A pair of them (at least) jump in roughly a minute apart, which gives you time to catch them, pop them and scoop up all the mat's before another pair arrive.
Rinse & repeat.

And it avoids angering our insect overlords. 🤨

I've never ground PF ranks either, as a result they've come up together pretty much, I only have half of Pioneer left for triple Elite. Most of my trade and explo ranks were done with passenger missions.

Where would one find such a tourist trap beacon?

Asking for a friend 😇

All I'm saying is, you probably wouldn't want to visit the Tourist beacon at Pachanwen B5 as part of a holiday.

TBH, passenger ships seem to show up at a lot of orbital POIs (the hospitals, factories and other stuff that appeared with 3.3).
Drop into any orbital POI, see if you get a "security response disabled" message (ensuring you your friend won't get hassled by the cops) and then see if any passenger ships show up.

Hmmm, I hadn't heard the killing scavengers gave an kind of ranks. Was this true at some point?
It was in a thread where someone was talking about hitting a NHSS but when you get the radio call for “Thargoid Insinkerator Incoming” you run out to 20km away. The Insidious doesn’t spawn and you can farm Scouts until the cows come home.

There was a bit of discussion about that, but no-one paid any attention to the poster who mentioned scavengers.

Neither sounded less plausible, and I’ve had experience with NHSS and shot a couple of scavengers.

I’m sort of looking to fast track my Combat rank. Historically my playstyle is that I only work for the good of the Alliance. Nothing for myself. And that’s worked out pretty well actually.

Problem for me is that I’ve set myself a goal of being Triple Elite when the Alliance governs a Thousand Systems.

That’s looking like September and I’m only Deadly +32% (made Deadly last November).

Anyway - I guess it’s back to killing Feds for me.
68% to go.
That’s like 30 plus wars.

I feel how my avatar looks.
