You know that you can create good unpredictable mission out of PG?![]()
Really depends on how deep and varied their mission chains can get

PG?
In the original Elite, I'll swear in the manual there was talk of generation ships, which were still on their way to the stars even though technology now meant those stars were now populated. I always hoped on my countless hours flying around, one day I'd pick up a blip on the radar and there one would be.
I'm hoping in ED, there will be spurious/odd events/missions every now and then which are clearly tailored/scripted a bit more than regular events/missions. Things that will happen to you only if you put in enough hours and are lucky enough![]()
Generation Ships: before the development of the WS Thru-Space drive, in all its various forms, interstellar travel occurred in large, self-sustaining environment ships - Generation Ships - most of which have now been logged and their progress monitored. There are more than seventy thousand of these immense vessels ploughing their way through the galaxy, some of them into their 30th generation. The penalty for interference with such a vessel is marooning.

Those guys are going to be ed when they get to their destination and find that other colonists are already there, and that the colonists could have come to pick them up at any time in the last hundreds of years (or however long humanity has had hyper-drive for).
"What?! I've been stuck in this metal tub living on recycled food and water for my entire fraking life and my parents and grand-parents before them... and you could have zipped over to give us a short-cut AT ANY TIME?!! ARRRGGHHHHH!!!"
<attacks welcoming party with bare hands>
Lol! Yeah.
Or imagine how out of place those colonists would be. They were from a different time, and have developed themselves in total isolation for hundreds of years. They'd be alien.
I doubt it would happen. Once we had developed the technology to catch up and overtake there would be some wrangling by human rights, you would then have contact ships sent out to rendezvous with them. They would be brought back, introduced to our time line, our societies, then touted around the main news stations and put on study for a while.
The ships would be brought back to Sol and the star systems they were heading towards (if populated) and placed on show as museum exhibits for the masses to view. It would be the cold reality of modern civilisation I'm afraid, they would not just be left out there to continue their generation flight.
